they are cheap
Cheap, good on gas, parts everywhere. Not rocket science. Not everyone can afford BMW, Infinity, Jag and Porshe.
I loved my Neon, until my ex killed it. For all the reasons screen_name said. And it was peppy as hell =)
I think they’re referring to the fact that people are pimping out those shit-box neons, cavaliers, and sunfires…. rather than just buying a decent car from the start.
they are cheap on gas though… tough to drive anywhere when they’re always broke down.
OMG….I was just thinking the same last night when I saw a Neon that someone had tinted the windows, put on a grill, custom rims, a spoiler, and had removed the NEON logo. As if they can fool people into believing it’s a sports car! LOL. Those cars are all CRAP.
Not every car is worthy of being pimped out…i agree…saw a pimped k-car in Alabama once…what an insane concept
Crappy care rule of thumb: If it didn’t come with a spoiler….
DON’T PUT ONE ON IT!!! That is all.
PS> Protege for life MFers!! >=)
whatever happened to datsuns? i love those wooden spoilers on cars from pow
I once took a picture of a k-car in Stewiacke with a blower out of the hood… it was hilarious. What is even more hilarious is to see the guys getting in the car thinking they’re so badass!
even the guys from the Preston chop-shop don’t bother to steal them….
Pontiac Sunfires ugh
The guys with the K-cars probably know its not actually a nice performance car. They probably did it for shits and giggles like they’re clearing receiving lots of. However, pimped neons still suck. I saw a Sunfire all tricked out with walmart rims and body kits. It looked like a bunch of shitty plastic on wheels. I also saw one at the car gatherings in Woodside on thursday night. Had speakers built inthe trunk and shitty lcd tvs throughout the interior. Had so much plastic hanging off it, it was redic. Why not save your money for a decent ride instead of buying aerodynamic kits for a Sunflower or Crapalier. Im sure they also wasted a few grand on turbos and other nonsense so they could blow the doors of nothing but other sunflowers or crapaliers.
they’re all show and no go.
I remember seeing a bud driving around Halifax in the early ’90s in a souped up Ford Escort. He’d stuck mags on the rear and … get this … chromed the hood! Strange, you never saw him around on a bright, sunny day….
They’re cheap! But I feel your pain on people who pour money into the underglow and ground effects…LOL and don’t get me started on the spoilers!!! all you can do is laugh at the tricked out guys who truly think their cavilier’s are the hottest cars in town :S Yikes!
Their vehicles, their money, so why the fuck care or get upset.
I drove to CB with my mom this weekend and I actually ducked out of shame when she let a cavalier pass my volvo on the divided highway part. FOR SHAME.
And while some people are all “they’re sooo good on gas and OMG the parts are cheap and they’re cheap to fix”…well, my volvo is AMAZING on gas and even though the parts are expensive and I have to take it to the middle of nowhere to get a proper volvo mechanic to fix it/do maintenance on it, I have to do that shit so rarely that it’s probably cheaper in the end.
My parents had a dodge a few years back and had to fix something on it every damn month, it seemed (and they’re pretty vigilant on keeping their cars maintained properly so it wasn’t a question of neglect).
AND, my parents had a 22 year old volvo (until the unfortunate crane truck accident) and it still ran perfectly. Their dodge died within 7 or so years. And the 22 year old volvo was amazing on gas, while the dodge was a gas guzzler. They bought the car for $700, I think as a second car and it became their primary car because it was so awesome.
You can buy older volvos like that pretty cheaply. You can get an early 2000s one for 5-6k, and it’ll last you for many many years. So they’re really not that expensive in the grand scheme of things.
And you know what gets me? All the cavaliers I see around HRM with car alarms – you know the ones that honk the horn when it’s turned on and scare the shit out of you if you’re standing beside it.
It makes me laugh my ass off because no one’s going to steal a fucking cavalier ffs! Let’s be real here.
I have a Cavalier now and it works fine. Nothing special and I feel a bit like a trashbag driving it thanks to its somewhat uncomplimentary reputation, but it was cheap and gets me from A to B no problem.
Volvos are great cars but weigh a ton! Probably a couple tons, actually, unless that’s just the older ones. They really can last for a long time though, just ask John Dunsworth.
From Volvo to Ikea to hot blonde supermodel pornstars to great puppet chefs, the Swedes have certainly brought us a lot of great things. Don’t tell that to a Norwegian though, they hate the Swedes and vice-versa.
UAP, NAPA.
GM vehicles with lots of cheap parts that fail regularly. Good business. Fuck the planet.
PK but dontcha know the enviro freaks want you to get rid of your perfectly serviceable, reliable vehicle if it was made before 1995. They can pound sand, my 94 Golf runs like a charm. No fucking way will they ever get it.
Volvo’s one of the most environmentally friendly cars out there — even ones in the 1980s. My current volvo is a newer one, but my parents’ 1990 740 that has now been retired conformed to California emissions standards.
So the environmentalists can suck it. 🙂
