To the parking officer named “Lloyd” – did you find it extra fulfilling writing me a parking ticket (for which I did not deserve) for not parking within 150mm of the curb (in a parallel park)? Did you realize that my very small car is also half the size of the Jeep or the SUV parked in front of me and behind me? They both are wider than my car, and protrude more into the road when parked, although they didn’t receive a ticket! BUT I GET A TICKET IN MY SMALL LITTLE FUEL EFFICIENT CAR! I wasn’t even allowed to fight it! Apparently due to some undemocratic fucks in the city, there are some parking violations not worthy of being fought over, making us basically at the whim of parking officers. What the hell? I was so ready to fight. That was my grocery money for the week. —Pissed responsible car owner

  1. “I broke the law and the others didn’t; I got a ticket and the others didn’t. You are a bad man, Lloyd.”

  2. lol if you had taken a couple extra seconds to look how close you were to the curb, you would have grocery money. sad that your stupidity will make you go hungry. but of course, its everyone ELSE’s fault.

  3. What is so hard about admitting that you were in the wrong?

Then the sign-off: ‘….That was my grocery money for the week.’ Let’s go for the sympathy vote, right? Poor Pissed doesn’t want to take responsibility for his/her own illegal actions and he/she is hungry to boot. Quelle horreur!

What a self-inflicted pity party! All this bitcher needs now is a set of Margaret Keane big waif eyes to turn into sad limpid pools at the first sign of trouble.

  4. This is pretty much the same bitch as buddy who got angry because someone yelled at him for riding his bike on the sidewalk.

Park closer to the curb next time, asshole.

  5. Learn to park properly instead of being a SET. What makes you more special than everyone else.

  6. Not sure the democratic process would include fines and penalties. There is no reason to park further than the legally allowable distance from the curb, other than the fact that you are a moron. Seems like you should just pay your fine and shut the fuck up.

  7. What does your car being fuel efficient have to do with anything? Do you think you deserve bonus points for being a hippie?

  8. You were ready to fight a legitimate parking ticket? It was not worth your time because you would lose it. The laws clearly state your wheels need to be within 150 mm (15 cm; 6 inches) of the curb. There is no exemption for vehicle size.

I’m going to guess the SUV drivers put their wheels close to the curb and hence no ticket? Learn the rules for parking (hint: they are all listed on your ticket with distances) and you will not have to pay another one unless you’re at a meter and it ran out.

  9. I have to side with OP, but wait I’ll explain why…..

IMO, if you were to park more than 150mm away from the curb, this practise would weight little or nothing on the public interest.

OP, I hope that you take this ticket to court and fight it. Please point out how small your car is, then cite the below text.

The common law concept of “de minimis non curat lex” was expressed in the English decision of The “Reward”(1818):

‘The Court is not bound to a strictness at once harsh and pedantic in the application of statutes. The law permits the qualification implied in the ancient maxim De minimis non curat lex. Where there are irregularities of very slight consequence, it does not intend that the infliction of penalties should be inflexibly severe. If the deviation were a mere trifle, which, if continued in practice, would weigh little or nothing on the public interest, it might properly be overlooked.’

  10. I also would side with OB if the circumstances are as they describe it (ie other vehicles protruding out further than their vehicle due to its small size). Yes, maybe they broke a bi-law by definition but just because a law exists, particularly one like this, doesn’t mean it has to be enforced to the letter every time. There is room for common sense sometimes as well.

  11. I think your main defense should be ” “de minimis non curat lex”

supporting points is you are still parked inside the boundary established by other vehicles, ie you are a narrow car. And, the public interest is NOT being weighed upon.

And, you might want to cast doubt on a small car’s ability to parallel park nice and close to the curb when a wide vehicle is nearby. but this is a weak argument if someone says that you are expected to go forward and backward until you are sufficiently moved over.

  12. prosecutors, parking enforcement, and police officers are allowed to use discretion.

“de minimis non curat lex” is a judge’s way of using his discretion to say ” I don’t care about trifles’.

You will still be guilty, but the sentence(the fine) may be suspended.

  13. Hahah. Can’t really do much about people with below average intelligence! 🙂
