Yes, I know that we should love our trees and protect them. But if the sidewalk snow plow happens to hit the tree that is between the sidewalk and the road, ie on city property, forgive the driver. I would much rather have a clear walkable sidewalk for myself and the seniors in our neighbourhood than a pampered tree —Rattale

this is the first year that the city is doing the sidewalk clearing right?
and this caused BOTH arms to atrophy and fall the fuck off everyone on the peninsula.
I think most of us would concur, should HRM actually provide us with a clear walkable sidewalk for us and the seniors in our neighbourhoods, BUT THEY DON’T!
Two possible solutions:
Call your councillor and complain. Bitching here only gets you rude comments on your idiocy.
Clear the snow from the sidewalks yourself. I’m no tree hugger, but here in Halifax we like greenery – not concrete.
Please start with mine.
“But if the sidewalk snow plow happens to hit the tree that is between the sidewalk and the road, ie on city property, forgive the driver.”
Do insurance companies work this way? Seriously though, did the tree come out of nowhere?
Also, that tree is ON private property, the sidewalk is too.
Although I understand clean safe sidewalks for pedestrians…. plows damaging trees only opens the door to diseases that trees may not survive….saw a tree yesterday with damage at base….bark missing and gouges in tree rings…how long before insects or diseases sets in.
Tree be jumping out and claiming whiplash.
Sorry Nukka. City owns a certain distance inland from the curb: sidewalk and probably a hair into the front yard too.
Perhaps they should wrap “Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers” around trees close to the sidewalks and the plows could bounce off them. Oh yeah… try saying that ten times fast.
I would say why not get rid of the concrete & go back to grass walk ways …but then the complaints would be ,the grass is too long, the pathway’s are muddy today, my beer is too cold my chips are too crispy …lmao
Scooter- It would appear as I am only responsible for the right of way next to my property, planting strip and sidewalk or unimproved shoulder even though i don’t own it. My mind was blown to say the least and I may submit a Bitch about this next week.
And get this, I also appear to be responsible for the pipes under the sidewalk I don’t own.
Yes Nukka! Remember that poor old man whose water the city cut-off because the pipes the CITY laid were made HIS responsibility…?
And on that note, did you know that that the hospital charges dispensing fees to terminally-ill patients getting life-saving/extending medications from them? Because the province won’t pay it, they download the expense to patients!
Welcome to the NEW Canada!
I hate treehuggers. Once you have hugged a lumberjack, you’ll never go back to trees.
Must be nice to have sidewalks.
Where’s the Lorax when you need him?
