Really, how does crap music like All American Rejects or Nickelback fit in with the rest of the music on The Bounch and Z103? I get the whole “top 40” thing, but can’t we have a dedicated hip hop station here in Halifax? Theory of a NickelCreed just really doesn’t do it for me when I’m trying to get over a bad day at work on the way home.

“Top 40” is short for “Top 40 craptastic bands”.
There’s a real shortage of good radio stations around here. Maybe it’s competition for the advertising buck, but there’s too many “classic rock” stations playing the same old antiquated shit for the past 30 years. How many fucking times do i have to hear the beetles. Yes, they were a revelation….40 years ago. more variety, something that doesn’t go off a fucking playlist approved by the CRTC. That’s why it’s garbage, a break though band can’t even get aired unless they’re signed and approved. That goes for all genres.
Yes, Nickelback sucks, but hip hop is an abomination. Pull up your pants, you bunch of hooligans.
I just love the Default Theory of a Nickleback… can’t get enough *groan*
We need a jazz station.
Never see jazz records in yard sales so a station would help everyone explore the genre.
Duke Ellington, the greatest American composer.
If anyone would listen to a jazz station I’m sure we’d have one. The radio is only going to play what sells ad-time. Unfortunately, most of the people in the province who listen to the radio regularly want to listen to Top 40, country and Classic Rock. Maybe if they had other options, they would become more interested in those options, but they will never have the option until they want to listen to it. Catch 22.
Two words: Satellite Radio. Commercial free, and there’s a whole slew of channels that play whatever you’re looking for.
If that were true, Miles, there’s be an all-blues station broadcasting just for the backward HRM but there just isn’t one. Must be something else. In the meantime, tune into 66.24 or 66.27 on your digital cable… you probably all ready pay for that commercial-free privilege so enjoy those jazz handz!
I kind of like Hal FM, for what it is. They play all the best old crappy music without all the Maggie May, fucking patio lanterns and NickelCreed.
Internet radio ftw. Jazz, classical, blues, hiphop, African beats, Persian dance, you find it all. It’s free and slim on adverts.
OP, most “hip hop” today is garbage and needs to be nuked. Make yourself a mix-tape, cuz.
Hip Hop radio station ??? in a redneck province like NS ? are you OUT OF YOUR MIND.
pretty much all the radio stations suck except for the few good songs they play on them here and there. I find 90.5 is the best, at least it’s interesting to listen too and when they do play music they have more variety…somewhat..lol
there’s some great Internet radio shows (weekly, daily, etc.) in Halifax.
i’ll try to find the link for 4Plae (IV and PlaeBoi); they do a weekly show online and sets are available for download. they’re two of Halifax’s finest.
The world of music is at your fucking fingertips. Get on your knees and bow to the greatness of the microchip, kid – the internet covers all genre of music BY FUCKING DECADE, fer Christ’s Sake! Radio is now brain dead and television is wheezing heavily.
TTFN is right. Fuck radio. It’s owned by corporations that don’t care about variety or originality. They care about selling their air time for big promotional dollars. The music is just second fiddle (no pun intended). Go on the ‘net, get all the songs you want to hear, and load up a MP3 player. Problem solved.
Another great option is an FM transmitter, which allows you to play the contents of your mp3 player over any radio. It saved my sanity when I was traveling though Saskatchewan, where the only radio options were Christian talk or country.
I don’t understand why anyone listens to corporate radio anyway, it’s nothing but overplayed music, obnoxious commercials and annoying banter. If I’m going to listen to the radio, it’s CBC or CKDU, though I have to agree with previous statements that internet radio is really where it’s at.
Satellite radio is an option yes…but at 14.99 a month its getting to be another expense i dont really want or need. just load up your million gig ipod and plug it into your home/car stereo…all the music you like, none of the crap or adverts.
I park myself on CBC and KOOL. Music I like, and I like hearing what’s going on in the city during the day. I work in the basement, I might as well get out vicariously. Plus CBC has radio programs. I loved listening to the mystery theatre ones on Mondays.
NGF, what is this “mixed tape” you speak of???
they don’t even make those anymore.
burn off a few cd’s and skip the crap.
I can’t believe we still even have radio.
CD’s were wheeled into palliative care October 23, 2001. the day apple released the ipoo-ed
Who the fuck listens to Z103 and The Bounce expecting to hear good music anyways? They play nothing but shit. I hate Nickelback but I think that’d be the best thing either of those stations would play!
mix-tape is a figure of speech, zZz. just a phrase i still use.
Two words: Canadian Content. http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/cancon/r_cdn.htm
That’s the only reason why any of those so-called bands are popular in the first place, and why we can’t have real radio stations that play an honest single genre on more than a three hour loop, seemingly. Even the one that says they play anything…sure, as long as every third song is Canadian. There aren’t a ton of Cdn hip-hop or rap artists, Can-con is why they have to pad it with stuff that’s irrelevant to those listeners.
Welcome to NS radio
I agree with JoeBlow and the jazz station. CBC isn’t too bad.
NGF, I thought you were kitty’s friend… ala university-ish age?
mark my words, one day (earlier than most) your children are going to think you’re OLD using relic terms like that….
Well I’m just going to throw on the ol’ Victrola here…
Everytime you put on hal or the Q its AC/DC
:s
that’s not too bad… as long as it’s BJ and not BS.
I can’t stand that bagpiping idiot.
