This theater is my favorite one in Halifax. I have gone there my entire life. I even saw Star Wars there for the first time when I was very little. So it pains me to complain, but it must be done, because no one is fixing the situation.
1) how have they not designed a more efficient way to sell tickets? Every time I go there I have to stand in line (sometimes for up to 30 minutes because the solo cashier is ringing in each person, who invariable pays with a debit/credit card. Why can’t some people buy their tickets at the popcorn stand? Or have a little booth that accepts cash only? Or even install one of the machines that are at other theaters in Halifax?
Now this wouldn’t be so bad, except that even though there is only one movie playing, and they can see how many people are still in line, THEY START THE MOVIE ANYWAY. I understand that the start times are trickier in the evenings, but for a matinee? that has nothing playing until hours afterward? Why couldn’t they delay the film for 10 minutes while everyone gets through the snail line? Often as I finally near the front of the line, I am greeted by the manager, as I hear the movie well underway inside. It is infuriating. This is a one film, old school theater. Why can’t they adjust?

Why waste your money when you can watch the movie on video?
For a patron of this theatre your entire life would it not be reasonable for you to clue in that the line takes 30 minutes and they will start the film on time whether everyone is seated or standing outside. Duh, adjust your schedule and waddle over earlier to remain one step (and seat) ahead of the crowd.
I thought you hipster fucks appreciated the old, shitty way of doing things. Maybe next time you can bring a generator, a crt TV and game of pong to play in the lineup. Think of how cool you’ll look!!!
…. or you could just buy your ticket online and waltz into the theatre when you get there. You can load it to your smartphone or print it out and take the paper copy.
…. unless you have no debit/credit card or no smartphone or printer … in which case you should get there earlier to make sure you are on time ….just like back in the “old days” when they had long line-ups outside theatres.
1st world problem.
Star Wars? You must change theaters immediately.
Because this is a one film, old school theater.
Is this theatre your favourite too? Are they still showing Star Wars? Write back soon.
THOUGHT BUBBLE: [“Clearly in the company of money-wasters who hate Jesus…”]
*looks around nervously for crosses and thorny crowns*
As others have said it is an old style theatre with an old style of managing the line. However, as you note it does take longer these days with credit and debit After all years back it was cash only so the line moved faster. Did you bother mentioning this to the Manager as he was greeting folks Perhaps he can start selling cash only tickets in another area instead of playing host. However, it may be difficult because the tickets and receipts are much different than in the good old days when they were just those small cardboard ones from a large roll
I thought Star Wars played at the old Casino theatre on Gottingen during its first run.
It’s the Oxford you’re talking about, OB: the only home for Oscar-bait and foreign films in this city. A trip to the movies there is as it always has been: a long line to get in. Next time, do what your parents and grandparents did, make an evening of it, and get there early!
Lol.. so they should delay the movie, and everyone else, because you and other people are late? It doesn’t work that way OB. Newsflash, this world does not revolve around you.
“Often as I finally near the front of the line, I am greeted by the manager, as I hear the movie well underway inside”
And you still haven’t figured out how to get there 10 minutes earlier? Or even say to that manager who is greeting you, “Hey, how about having more ticket booths?” Derp…..
I kind of agree with the first post.
Honestly TVs today provide a way better picture quality than theatres.
