Please teachers don’t cave. I know that you have some members of the public beating up on you but don’t give in.

Go back look at the Freeman report and review the section on inclusion in the educational system. How much of the issues in that report were dealt with? Keep standing up for yourself and don’t let the government push you around. If they legislate you back to work then get a record of every MLA who voted yes to it.

Focus on two issues to fix—inclusion issues relating to disabled students and administrative burden involving data entry. Focus on getting a fair compensation settlement such as three quarters percent to one percent a year and a different more sustainable long service award. If they attack you on the long service award and wages now then they’ll also be coming after your retirement health benefits after they’ve chopped the other two. —Person supporting the teachers

  1. The obscene and overly simplistic demand that would limit 3 children on IPPs in each classroom is not only against the Education Act but is poorly thought out and offensive to anyone who has a child on an IPP. Does inclusion need to be addressed, sure, but teachers need more training on how to modify their lessons to accommodate different learning styles, not an outright ban on anymore than 3 students per class. The “burden” on tracking student performance is pathetic. Please justify how having a record of student performance is either not required or not helpful to students and teachers over the course of a student’s education. When it comes to the golden handshake of 37k and full health care after retirement (paid in full by the taxpayer) is not a demand the taxpayers can afford. Teaching is a noble profession and deserves support but the union demands are out of control and unrealistic in today’s economy. You CAN support teachers and not the union.
