OK, first off I admit that I do appreciate courteous drivers once in a while, like when I’m waiting 10 mins to make a left turn and someone stops to let me go through, but some people take it a little too far. For example the other day I was on an on ramp merging with Barrington before the old bridge. As I was driving I noticed I was going to meet another vehicle as I merged so I slowed down as I am the one who has to yield to them, but they also slowed down, so I slowed down even more. This contined until we were both at a dead stop and I was looking back behind me wondering what the hell they were doing, if they just kept going things would have went a lot smoother. I find a lot of the time this kind of driving causes more confusion than anything. Don’t stop to let someone turn if you are the only vehicle heading towards them, they know and expect to turn after you have gone past them. Just follow the rules of the road, keep it simple. —Haligonian

  1. Merge and yield, there’s a difference. If you were ahead in the merge lane (as you reached the solid line), you were supposed to go first.

  2. I know there is a differance between merging and yielding, they are two totally differnt actions. Also if I am supposed to go first then why is there a yield sign for cars merging on barrington and no yield sign for vehicles already on barrington?

  3. All these bitches about driving and shit makes me feel great about my [unconscious] decision not to renew my license in the past 7 years.

  4. All these bitches about driving makes me happy that I use public transit. If there are that many bad drivers out there then I rather use public transit.

  5. Thank you OB for realizing that the ramp must yield to the traffic already in the lane you want to merge into. Most drivers don’t get that concept. I don’t let them in. I also don’t let people into my lane from side streets. They can wait their turn or for some sucker to let them in.

  6. some people are justtoo nice for their own good, this person must be one, to get flamed on here. while i agree,it is nice to have someone let you cut in, there is no need to let the rest of the world in too. when i’m driving, if someone needs to get out of a bad spot, i will let them out, but not a 100 cars behind them. if you, behind me, wishes to do so, then you will be villifed here.

  7. I had the courteous driver piss me off this evening. We met at a 3way, and she was to my right, but decided to let me go.

So I sat there and waited for her, when she finally went…..I was supposed to be the next guy, but idiot to the left of me got so frustrated he pulled a boner and cut in front of me.

  8. Hey PK if you do decide to renew you’ll have to take the drivers test all over again. After 3 years you can’t renew it and have to start over again. At least that is what had happened to me awhile back. Mind you that it may have changed since then.

  9. that is correct jester, it is three years. so even if you don’t drive it’s best to keep it up to date

  10. Hey OB…you’re 1 of probably only 4 drivers in all of Nova Scotia that know you are suppose to yield when merging onto a road.
Unfortunately 95% of the driving population of this Province don’t know how to look in a rear view mirror & don’t realise stopping in the middle of their lane to let you in, does a disservice to all the people in the vehicles stuck behind their lame ass.
But you still should be commended for knowing the rules of the road !
