If you don’t care about smoking while you’re pregnant and around your own kids – great stay home and smoke your lungs out. But please stay away from playgrounds. Kids are there trying to play and you are stinking the place up with your cancer causing fumes. You have all the right in the world to suck back smoke after smoke but the rest of us also have the right to clean air. Go home and smoke there and when you are out in public around other people and their kids just take a break from your smoking long enough to notice that there is no one else smoking where you are. Stop ruining our trip to the playground. —All Wheezed Up and No Where To Go

When you become perfect and have no flaws that’s when everyone else will be fixed too.
I thought it was against the law in halifax to smoke in parks. you have to smoke on the sidewalk. they are allowed to smoke there.
Do you drive an SUV? Do you have your children around moving or idling SUVs? Do you feed them ANYTHING that you don’t cook from scratch? They’d better not be eating sugar or salt! And make sure you put gloves on them before they touch the ground.
Dude, EVERYTHING is toxic these days. Get over it. If someone is smoking near a playground, either move on or deal with the fact that your kids are sometimes going to be in the presence of something that isn’t perfect. They’re outside, not locked in your kid’s bedroom. Grow up.
Kids today are not allowed to be injured or come into contact with anything even remotely dangerous and as a result they’re growing up into giant, weird pussies. A thin whisp of smoke is NOT going to hurt your kid and anyone with half a head on their shoulders would know that. You’re just bitching for the sake of bitching.
Smoking smells like a fresh summer breeze, and it causes rainbows and unicorns!
Let’s just bubble wrap the kids, pop in an oxygen tube and wheel them around on dollies for fuck’s sake. With all the airborn pollution floating around and OP’s worried about someone puffing on a cigarette? And what are YOUR flaws, OP?
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/19/science/…
Playgrounds are too safe these days anyway – thank the smokers for saving your kids from yourself OP haha
And what about mothers who use their panis as slides?
Penis or pants TTFN? lol. Or is a panis some kind of combo?? lol. Does sound dangerous
Reasoning is a bit off but I agree with the overall sentiment. If you can’t smoke pot or drink booze in public then you shouldn’t be able to smoke in public. Smokers can fuck right off and go stink up their own home/backyard/car.
What does booze or pot have to do with anything? Do cigs make you high?
Seriously, I’m fucking sick of the “what does booze/pot have to do with cigarettes?” rebuttals. No, they are not the same products. However, the public health effects of each is more or less the same.
Smoking: affects air quality of those in proximity of smoker
Smoking pot: same effect as smoking cigs, and makes user high but harmless to those around them
Drinking (in moderation): affects no one around them
So, if the harm is more or less the same, then how come I can’t drink a beer or smoke pot on the sidewalk or in a park when others are allowed to smoke cigarettes?
Thanks for clearing it up asshole.
Maybe because you are a moron
something tells me the effect of chugging a pint of vodka is a little different than chain smoking ciggy;s…
though you’re likely to throw up in both cases.
but seriously here… you’re saying I shouldn’t be allowed to smoke a legal product in a public place because people can’t smoke an illegal one?
that’s like saying you can’t drink water in public because you aren’t allowed to drink booze on the street.
idiot.
What is wrong with you guys this week? Seriously, bitches, I loves ya, but… why smoke in a playground? Aren’t there a million other places to do it? We KNOW that smoking is harmful, ya, ya, go ahead and shoot your rebuttals, but if you’re going to smoke, go ahead, but why smoke in a playground? Smoke elsewhere!
zZz, you’re confused. My argument was based on the relative public health effects of pot, tobacco, and alcohol, not on how they’re currently treated under Canadian law. If you had known this, you would know that what I said is not equivalent to “you can’t drink water in public because you aren’t allowed to drink booze on the street”. Clearly my argument is not consistent with that. Idiot.
Now, read carefully. What I’m saying/asking is: if tobacco, alcohol and pot are all more or less equivalent in terms of their health effects, both personal and public, when used in moderation, then how come I can’t smoke pot or drink a beer or two in a park or on a sidewalk when others can smoke a pack in the same places? Name me one reason, apart from “well, duhhhh, cuz’ it’s against the law”.
Canned, you can smoke pot anywhere you want to because unlike booze and ciggies, it is illegal to own/use ergo no laws exist re designated usage areas. So puff away. Just don’t get caught.
“if tobacco, alcohol and pot are all more or less equivalent in terms of their health effects, both personal and public,”
that’s an interesting “IF” you got there.
care to show evidence it’s the case… any sources???
otherwise you’re arguing “if smurfs smoke crack then scooby doo is a pothead”
You want to smoke in public, fine, fill your boots…(or your lungs). Smoke until your blue in the face. That’s fine. It’s not illegal after all and in those places that it IS illegal, it’s not really enforced. What DOES annoy the hell out me is the fucking mess most, (not all), smokers leave lying around in this city… Butts everywhere. It’s dirty, disgusting, unsightly, not environmentally friendly, a fire hazard, a bio-hazard, oh and hey, it’s littering too! These things do not biodegrade. They contain several harmful chemicals that eventually leach into the ground, contaminating soil and/or water (like in a playground/park). They contain doses of nicotine and other substances in sufficient quantities to cause serious harm to children, pets and wildlife should they ingest them (all found in a playground/park). If the smoker happened to be infected with a virus, (cold, flu, hepatitis, HSV-1, etc), then that virus can potentially be transmitted to someone else simply by touching it. Cig butts not properly extinguished and still smoldering are a huge fire hazard, especially during the dry summer months, (like in a playground/park), not to mention a burning hazard for children or animals that happen to pick one up (like in a playground/park). They are extremely unsightly. Walk by any designated smoking area outside of an office or any bus stop, for that matter, and have a good look at the fucking mess left lying there. But do these smokers care? Hell no!…afterall, it’s all part of smoking in public. I’m exercising my right as a smoker. Suck on that cancer stick like your life depended on it and then…flick! Outta sight, outta mind. And the city is dirty anyway so what’s my little cigarette butt gonna harm? The truth is, your thin whisp of smoke, as one person put it, is only a very small part of the bigger problem. You tell me to mind my own business; I’ll start doing that when you start cleaning up after yourselves. And if it’s happening in a PUBLIC place, then it IS my business. Maybe the city should start fining your lazy asses for littering. They’d be well within the law to do it.
Seriously, asking for sources? On the internet? Just Google it. Here are a few. Probably some more reputable sources, like academic ones, but you have to look a bit harder.
– Lung cancer: http://www.webmd.com/lung-cancer/news/2006…
– Addiction: http://www.saferchoice.org/content/view/24… (with many sources); http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/polit…
and I should go out of my way to prove your assumptions … because….???
coming back to your assertion….
“if tobacco, alcohol and pot are all more or less equivalent in terms of their health effects, both personal and public,”
checking your very handy second link there:
Facts on Cannabis and Alcohol
Marijuana is far less toxic and less addictive than alcohol.
Long-term marijuana use is far less damaging than long-term alcohol use.
Alcohol use contributes to aggressive behavior and acts of violence, whereas marijuana use reduces the likelihood of violent behavior.
so…..
they aren’t equivalent… so you’ve disproved yourself.
kudos… I guess scoob’s a pothead
I dunno… my right to breathe clean air > your ‘right’ to fill said air with disgusting smelling smoke.
Smoking is just a dirty, nasty habit. The bitch that lived down the hall from me moved and the super told us they had to scrub the walls and change the carpets because of the soot and smell of her five-pack-a-day habit.
I can also think of far better things to spend my 10 bucks on than a pack of smokes (how do smokers afford to smoke? especially the ones who are obviously not that well off to begin with?).
The same way people spend $10 a day on coffee, McFatty’s, liquor, doobies or anything else they choose to spend it on.
The amount of smoke my tobacco product produces is minute compared to a three second belch of any exhaust system.
And that is why I shoot heroin and snort cocaine at playgrounds. No smoke.
Hush now OB, OP don’t you cry !
Mothers gonna make all of your nightmares come true
Mothers gonna put all of her fears into you
Mothers gonna keep you here right under her wing
She won’t let you fly but she might let you sing
Mother’s gonna keep baby comfy & warm
Get over yourself, if this is the only thing you’ve got to bitch about , your life is perfect & you’re to damn stund to realise it !
LMFAO Senor. >: )
“…to damn stund to realise it !”
that was painful to read… how do you fuck up every other word?
yeah, +1 to senior… keep on with the happy.
and as for
“my right to breathe clean air > your ‘right’ to fill said air with disgusting smelling smoke. “
what gives you more of a right than I?
If I’m standing at a corner… and you happen to walk in front and get a whiff…
well I can see a parallel in that…

you should happen to get in the way, that’s YOUR problem!” – Bart to Lisa
OP, lung cancer and those smokers will soon meet. Hope they have a pleasant short time together.
I’m not really going to get into this whole pointless debate… well I guess I am with what I’m about to say but you smokers really need a better defense then pointing out the fact that cars and fast food exist. Just because I don’t smoke doesn’t mean I hang out behind cars (cars by the way have uses, unlike cigarettes) and eat fast food all day. It’s not either someone smokes or eats poorly — a lot of people don’t do either. I don’t particularly like people who regularly eat fast food but that has nothing to do with smoking. Stop linking the two. Cars get people to work, emergency vehicles to and fro, transport food and other items across the country/continent, etc. I don’t like people that drive everywhere when they could walk but that also has nothing to do with smoking.
It’s all these smoking nazis that make me want to keep smoking just so I can annoy them to death lol – long before I ever kill them with my second hand smoke. I will keep trying though, either way
Hi Mel I don’t need a car, walk, but I have legs…
We should also ban people who wear perfume from walking the streets. One smell of them is worse than any smoker.
