I grew up in PEI and we have always had a running joke about how crappy Island radio is. Seems as if all of the channels don’t play anything newer than 1992 and even then, it’s all the same songs over and over.

Up until a few months ago, I would always at least be able to count on a bit of variety here in Halifax when driving to work, but with some recent changes to the stations here, things are actually better on the Island with it’s two radio stations. At least then I don’t have to hear nothing but ’80s hair metal and Phil Collins. Luckily, we have that one other station that can be counted on playing four Maroon 5 songs in one hour.

  1. You’re absolutely right. I hate the current selections because I’ve listened to those fucking songs for 50 goddamn years! Enough already! I’d like to hear stuff from the 21st century, thanks. If I hear the Eagles one more time, I will kick a seagull thru the hedge.

  2. I have long given up on local radio. Have been a Sirius XM subscriber for 6 years and listen to new music almost exclusively

  3. Right now, terrestrial radio is catering to the boomers because they’re the largest group that still listens to radio. Unfortunately that generation has shit taste in music.
I used to work in Radio and had to get out of the industry. I’ve only seen a touch of the management at our stations here, but they’re all pretty short sighted and money grubbing, wanting to do nothing risky and creative or to do much for the community.
Your best bet is spotify, honestly.

  4. This old boomer subscribes to Spotify otherwise my sanity would be mush listening to moldy oldies on FM. All boomers are not built alike. Some of us don’t look back, only forward when it comes to music. Give me indie over rock any day.

  5. Rock radio in Halifax blows. The one station left has their top 2-3 songs by each band on endless loop. Getting sick of Sultans of Swing, Living on a Prayer, and Sweet Home Alabama yet?

Jack and Diane ain’t rock music either.
