Dear Metro Transit,
Please get it together! The buses should not be running late all the time, more specifically the number one bus in my case. For this paid service the system should be more reliable. Tonight, 26 minutes late:(… and I do not accept it is anyone else’s fault but yours as a company. —Faster to walk

  1. Faster to walk – and healthier too! C’mon, give it a try. One foot first and then the other …. it is like riding a bicycle, you haven’t done it in awhile but it will come back to you …. believe me, you will enjoy the outdoors and fresh air. Make us proud of you!

  2. Although they are 10 mins apart…stuck in traffic, you see them bunched up…add accident on bridge…whole new game of lateness

  3. You must be new, OB.

You’ll get in a routine and realize that the buses, though late, will follow a consistent pattern of lateness and realize the schedule is just a rough guide.

Also: you’re putting your life in your hands if you try to get a transfer with 5 minutes or less time in between.

It sucks, but I’ve learned it’s really wasted energy to go on a crusade about it. Pick your battles, i guess, cause this shit ain’t gonna change. MT planners haven’t, nor ever will, grasp the concept of ‘traffic.’

  4. Busses are late for only one reason and one reason only. TRAFFIC!! Yes it sucks and during rush hour it is unbearable but a bus gets stuck in traffic just like cars and NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. Just like the above thread states don’t rely on making a 5 minute transfer to get home/work. Not only is the traffic in this city is a hindrance but take into account all the construction going on (especially downtown) and the lateness of busses is compounded. Walk/take a bicycle or adapt to the fact that you cannot change the traffic situation in this city and suck it up!

  5. They shouldn’t have schedules. They should just say “XY Bus travels this route every z minutes between xx:yy and aa:bb o’clock. etc

  6. Best option is to program a shit load of go-time routes in your phone.
Some are real time (depending on the bus) and fairly accurate so you can figure which routes will be quickest to get where ya needs ta go.

  7. I walked by Mumford terminal the other day in the middle of the afternoon. There must have been 200-300 people there (conservative estimate) and not one bus. NOT ONE! How is it that one of the main terminals in town, in the middle of a weekday afternoon, doesn’t have one single bus?!?!

  8. Allow yourself a 30 minute margin of error, + or -, and Mesozoic transit shall never let you down.

Plus, the union sends a mighty fine muffin basket to the hospital when they run you down. ^^^

  9. Ah you poor schlump, you weren’t using the Mayan Calendar were you? The enlightened union wallahs who turn out for work laugh at your displeasure.

  10. Unless the city gets on board the wonderful idea of adding bus lanes this will never change. It still boggles my mind that we have so much successful lobbying for bike lines but can’t buy any support for bus lanes

  11. If Metro Transit works traffic into their schedule, then wouldn’t the buses be amazingly early outside of the rush hours? Then we’d have the opposite complaints. Damn you Metro Transit for being early all the time! Fuckers! And how can they work in the fact that on one route they only have one stop. But, the same route the next day they may have five people getting on and off per stop. And two of those people need to count their change after boarding.

Sure I’ve had minor complaints about them. But driving your own car still exposes you to the same delays, you’d just be more comfortable. I was a regular transit user years ago. Maybe once a week there would be a big delay, but thats the one bus ride people would focus on. Anyone ever send in a Love for the bus system?

  12. I think the point OP was making was the fact that the times for these routes should be longer during…say. 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. then 3.00 p.m. to 6 p.m. due to increased traffic. You can’t convince me that the bus will chug along the same during these times as opposed to 7 or 8 p.m. at night or early morning.

  13. “An empty bus is a happy bus.;)”

    You know what’s even happier?

    An empty Walmart.

    Best shopping day EVER.

Also: times were adjusted on certain express routes and other routes during rush hour a few schedule changes ago. It’s helped, but anyone still relying on the arrival times in the schedules during rush hour is delusional.
