Last night it took me an hour and half to travel the 102 because there was an accident on the 102 near Sackville. A coworker left an hour after me, and beat me to Sackville because she took the Mackay bridge.
During all of this time, I surfed my three favourite radio stations and did not get one traffic report. Granted, it is not their responsibility to send out traffic reports, but wtf?

I tried to call that in OB, the automated answering service fucked up and wouldn’t take my message.
My stock stereo(GMC truck) has a button that is supposed to scan for traffic reports.
It never bothered me when it stopped at news or DJs talking.
But, I noticed that with certain stations, it stops even when they are playing music. This makes me wonder if they are transmitting a continuous “we are having a traffic report” signal
i’m not sure what station it is, but one does a lot of traffic shit. i never bother with the stereo in a car, it is never on.
90.5 CBC or 95.7 – Talk Radio – both give half hour, sometimes quarter hour reports between 3 and 6 p.m.
I like OB’s suggestion of every 10 minutes. Atleast mention everything every 10 minutes, then use the 30 min reports to for extra details.
95.7 do updates every 10 minutes, news and weather – you’d think we were a real city and not a backwater. The only drawback to listening to 95.7 on the way home is that Left Wing Socialist Rick Howe has the programme…….

Yeah but Rick is funny though he can be hard to listen to at times. One has to wonder if he really believes the shit he spouts. I say it’s more of a facade to get people going.

Follow the the local Twitter traffic + radio sites for up to the minute traffic reports by local drivers, bus passengers, cyclists, etc. Local radio stations seem to give + get their traffic info to + from Twitter. Excellent, has saved me many a time.

and you get twitter from where? if a cel phone, then you are breaking the law by using it while driving. there is no grey area that says you can use it if stopped or stalled in traffic. your vehicle has to be stopped, off the roadway, and preferably not blocking the flow, of said traffic. my buddy got a ticket by a bike cop for doing just what i outlined, not.

One of the worst twitter sites has to be the bridge commission – they seem very reluctant to post any incidents on their site. Maybe they’re afraid they’ll lose revenue if people drive around the basin. They seem quite capable of posting it on their electronic signs, but if you’re reading it on their sign, you’re stuck in it. I check Twitter before I leave home + work, and from the car too.

Les Nessman used to beat on his chest while giving the traffic reports to give the effect of being in a helicopter. He also had “Eyewitness Weather” where he’d give the weather report by looking out the window.

Did I ever tell you that I was a radio announcer for CHNS in Halifax? I never did traffic but worked the graveyard shift when a student as a newsreader. My most dramatic effort was giving the station’s call-signal. “THIS IS MBC, THE MARITIME BROADCASTING COMPANY, CHNS IN HALIFAX.” God, I was good! What a cultured voice! I also remember doing spots and intros for shows like “The People’s Gospel Hour” at midnight. There was a whole lot of shakin’ goin’ on!
One night, sitting there alone in the announcer’s booth, I became terribly self-conscious. The thought of all those unseen people out there listening… listening. I started to get strangled. It felt like there was some one standing on my chest. That was the end of my career at CHNS.
I was accepted as an announcer by the CBC but they wanted to send me to Sydney for seasoning. I mean, Sydney. Forget it.
It turned out all for the best, however. I embarked on the road leading to my present career as a public intellectual.

As far as this rude young woman..she needs anger management.It wasn’t the seeing eye dog that she was really pissed at,it wasn’t even her problem with the customer service she was arguing with on her cell.We don’t know what happened in her short life that would cause her to be so angry at the world but,I do hope she gets GOOD mental health help.
