To the municipal government workers who evacuated our building this afternoon when the PA system was tested with a FAKE fire alarm (despite being forewarned of the test weeks before and evacuation not being correct protocol for the situation) —> I hope you enjoyed your impromptu 20 minute smoke break, because I certainly enjoyed having my tax dollars pay for it —> Get back to work!

  1. to be honest here… I wouldn’t feel like listening to an alerm go off for 20 mins while trying to work.
we had one just the other day and I literally did zero work during it… was impossible to concentrate. I feel bad for the guy next to me on the conference call… I can’t imagine that went well.

  2. if this is one of the towers at scotia square, i’m glad someone got to get outside and avoid them. it seriously sounded like a nuclear bomb was going to hit us or something from how loud and obnoxious the alarm was.. for twenty minutes while people are on conference calls and trying to do work.

  3. Here’s the thing. Do you honestly expect people who work in government offices to put out more overall effort than you do yourself at your own job? Have you never rhad one of those days when staring out the window was actually more productive than doing work?

The whole “my tax dollars pay your salary” argument is stupid. You choose to live in a city and pay taxes but you are not the employer of city employees. You can move if it bothers you that much.

Of course, I’d like one of those cushy highly-paid impossible-to-be-fired government positions myself. I hear they have really good break times.

  4. They also seem to overlook that the government workers are also paying their taxes. Seriously, you’d like “your tax dollars” to pay for the medical care due to hearing loss?
