Three Little Pigs deemed offensive, Christmas deemed offensive….

I think it’s about time for everyone to stop for a second and realize that EVERYthing on the face of the earth will be offensive to SOMEone and stop with the politically correct bullshit. This includes all the “new” labels for short/tall people, fat/thin people, white/black/chinese/muslim, disabled etc. We are so wrapped up in trying not to offend people that people are offended. Not only that but we waste valuable time, energy, and money to do it.

There is a very simple and easy ideal that can be applied for most of us normal folk but unfortunately it requires people to do nothing and as simple as that sounds, it’s not easy. Everyone has a right to their opinion and thankfully we enjoy the freedom to have and voice said opinion. Having said that, those opinions should be voiced in the spirit of improvement, debate and working together to find a compromise or a better way not to just be contrary, venemous, hateful, hurtful or to hear yourself speak.

So here’s my simple idea. Live and let live. Do what you want, when you want and how you want (please apply intelligence and common sense to this statement if able) and let everyone else do the same. If you don’t like someone wishing you Merry Christmas, smile and say same to you or use whatever happy statement coincides with your beliefs centering in December. If you don’t like the Three Little Pigs, don’t read it or buy it but let those who want to do so in peace.

This is the idea of true acceptance and tolerance and gets rid of all those “ism’s” out there. Sure there will still be negative, mean spirited, hateful people doing what they do best but the rest of us can promote better things.

Think this isn’t a bitch? Too bad. It infuriates me when I hear some stupid politically correct bullshit about a ban, rally or change on every little insignificant thing but I figured my point might be better made acting in a civil manner.

  1. I agree. It’s not a new idea that PC has gone too far, but I don’t really see things getting any better. I really don’t think restricting and/or changing language really does anything to change people’s minds or opinions…except maybe to piss people off. The only increase in awareness I feel, is that I am more aware of how rediculous political correctness can get.Do we really think that forcing someone to refer to me as a promiscuous mentally-disabled phallus is really going to make anyone think i am anything but a fucking retarded prick? You can’t change an attitude by changing the lingo. Political correctness did noting to stop racism when “coloreds” became “African Americans” or raise sensitivities when “midgets” became “little people” or “Indians” became “First Nations peoples”. Ignorance still prevails in ignorant minds. Eventually the PC term will be adopted by the racists and the bigots and become just as offensive and derogatory and we will have to find a new term. And I think I went a little off the poster’s point, but I also want my “Holiday party” to be a “Christmas Party” again. It’s not like an office Christmas part ever reeked of Christianity. I’ve never seen one that was all mangers and baby Jesus. They have all been about the very generic christmas traditions of trees, presents, Santa Claus and, hopefully, drunken indiscretion in the copy room. Who’s really offended by this stuff? Don’t they get to draw a name from the secret Santa hat too? Everyone needs to relax a bit. Oh, and what’s offensive about the three little pigs now?

  2. I agree .. things have gone too far. When you live in a place where say, 80% of the population celebrates Christmas and such .. “when in Rome, do has the Romans do”. Or, something like that.If you don’t celebrate Christmas, then don’t say “Merry Christmas” I however do, and will as I please.

  3. Robert, I take a real issue with your “promiscuous mentally-disabled phallus” example in your quest to rid the world of the overly politically correct vernacular (which I think may be founded on some overly-simplified arguments on your part).Calling someone a “fucking retarded prick” is offensive regardless of what “sensitive” language it is translated to because it implies that there is something wrong with being mentally-disabled and likens mental disabilities with general jerkish-ness and rude behavior. In contrast, naming the days in between December 23 and January 2 the “Christmas Season” is exclusive to those who do not celebrate Christmas, but it does not label them as something less or something unpleasant.

  4. Human nature is such a two-faced beast. While one might follow the politically correct rules thrust into their faces daily, you can bet many have very unpolitically correct views in private. Unfortunately, today’s society is so fucked up and paranoid that it is doubtful if common sense will ever prevail.

  5. don’t it pisses you off ? ya! i am not a christian, but i get fuming when i read that ottawa banned a choir from singing a christmas song at the concert on parliament hill. the reason: it has the word christmas in the song.can you imagine, you cannot sing a CHRISTMAS tune because it mentions the word CHRISTMAS. they say santa claus is ok, but jesus or christmas , no.I feel mad for the christians because they cannot even celebrate their own Saviour’s birthday.can you imagine if they told muslims or hindus or buddhists they cannot celebrate their holy days? everybody wants their own holy days, but they do not want the christians to celebrate christmas. only say season’s greetings.what is this country of ours becoming?my friends from latin america, a very poor country , were surprised that they didn’t see one nativity scene in the plaza or anywhere.they ask me, “isn’t your country christian? do they still believe in Jesus for Christmas?” or is it only santa claus.”i didn’t have anything to answer them.

  6. I find it crazy that it’s not politically correct to hold a cultural celebration (e.g. Christmas) that the majority of people celebrate (Christian or not) because you are afraid of offending a very small minority. The last statistics i heard were that ~80% of Canadians celebrate Christmas. So why can’t they have a Christmas party at work? Or put a manger scene in the mall or the school play? Last time I checked, the whole basis of a democracy is majority rule. (Not to imply that minorites be ignored or abused). All this outcry over Christmas yet there are huge parades on Gay pride day. What small percentage of the population do homosexuals represent? Or what about the almost weekly events held in multicultural cities like Toronto that very publically celebrate any number of religious and cultural beliefs of a small minority. These events are not offensive and typically welcome anyone to participate. They are held not only for the people who hold the beliefs, but to expose the outside majority to the diversity around them. As much as Christians get a bad reputation lately, Christmas, in the religous and secular traditions, is typically a season that promotes love and peace. Why try to minimize that or make the people who try practice these values feel guilty over saying Merry Christmas?
