To the homeless or not so homeless guy thats in front of tim hortons on spring garden road. You are my favorite “beggar” around. I don’t think I have ever heard you ask for money – you like to see people smile :). As people walk by I hear you say “have a wonderful day miss” or “lets see that smile!!” and when someone does smile, “now there’s a beautiful smile! have a wonderful day”. Its these kind of people that we need more of. A simple smile can brighten anyones day, and sometimes, you never know just how much that one smile meant to someone. There were uncountable times this past summer I NEVER felt like smiling, with the loss of my common law partner, I was having a hard time smiling, but as soon as I went to get a coffee and bagel from timmys and heard you ask me where my smile was, simply made my day.
Thanks 🙂
—brightened my day

  1. I know exactly the fellow you’re talking about and can’t quite work him out. Is he actually homeless and bumming for change, or has he been placed there intentionally by some government agency, the Department of Happiness or something, to cheer people up? With the great personality he possesses, though, there’s no reason he should need to be begging. Put those people skills to use in sales, marketing, or Walmart greeting! Or why not get a job at Timmy’s? He’s already far happier than just about everyone who works there.

He could also very well be the Second Coming of Jesus, and should therefore work at Second Cup.

  2. LOL…Q… your very funny and I think you’d do fantastic in PR. In answer to your other question Q I’m rather busy pursuing Mr. suit *wink*….But I sure like your sense of humour and I always seek out your posts.

    🙂

Sounds great! …except for the fact that he would actually have to do work, be responsible, follow a schedule, take showers, etc… instead of just flapping his yap all day. Good try though. lol

  4. That dude would be Pat ! He isn’t that bad .If it is Pat – he’s not homeless but doesn’t live in uptown forsure . He has medical problems and hep C . I know the fellow and have lots of times stopped and talked to him and gave him a smoke or a couple bucks . Just because He’s always nice and trys to make people especially the ladies smile .

    Good enough for me

  5. Some people are just victims of bad fortune. I, personally, know very little about him, but like him as a person. If someone wants to stand on the sidewalk smiling, wishing me a good day when I walk by then so be it. I see him every day- doesn’t mean he expects/pursues a handout every time I walk by. But he still says hi every time I walk by and the world needs more of that.

  6. I’ve never given him, nor anyone, money, and I never will, but he’s always the happiest of them all, which is appreciated. Gotta love the positivity! Meanwhile, the tall unshaven crackhead dude who tends to curse at you is back, Mike I think his name is.

  7. jesus yea Mike is the one Q . A real fucktard. Pat thou – It has to be him ,no other bum on SPG GDN RD I know like that . He’s ok . And he does make people smile and always has something nice to say . He leaves it up to you to figure out if you want to hand him a buck or smoke .

I always talk to Pat – he’s quite funny sometimes too . I don’t make a point of giving anyone money or smokes , but him , I feel like I’m helping someone out and it’s actually appreciated when I DO help him out .

Down and out is always fine . If all the down and outs had that attitude , atleast it wouldn’t be such a pain in the ass dealing with them . Maybe Pat needs to open a “proper street bum etiquette” school ! HAHA atleast he’d have a job – but I don’t know how much the bums can afford to pay !

  8. Perhaps they could all give him a cut of everything that goes into their cups/cases/whatever once they have completed his course. He could be, like a bum-etiquette pimp…. you don’t pay, you’re off to Gottigen street. In all honesty though, it would be nice to see him catch a good break cause he’d likely pay it forward anyway. I’ve often wondered if there was somehow someone COULD make things a little easier on him. And by easier, I mean giving him some kind of job so he could have some money and feel good about how he got it….
