Council has approved $40,000 in funding for the SPCA spay-neuter program for cats but yet Stepping Stone’s Executive Director resigns due to challenges with funding. So since when have cats been more important than people? What asshole made this decision? Cats need the funding way more than people who are trying to straighten out their lives?? Set a few traps for the cats and get rid of them that way. Who gives a shit. The cat problem is never ending due to irresponsible owners so good luck with that one. Why waste precious dollars on cats when our people need the help. What a screwed up world we live in! —Totally Disgusted

But but but kitty cats are sooooooo cute, Blech.
Well the whole point of the $40 000 isn’t to “fund cats” or help them because they’re “more important.” It’s to help people who can’t afford it spay and neuter their cats so there are fewer of them. It will help the “never ending cat problem” better than setting traps and killing them would. Plus it will free up money that the city already spends on animal control.
I’m not saying you’re wrong and I get your point. But you’re definitely being selective about what you take into account.
Because the cats won’t take the money we give them for food and use it to buy meth. They won’t rip the wire and pipes out of the affordable housing we give them and buy meth.
They won’t sign up for training and skip the classes because they’re high on meth. They won’t neglect, abuse, or pimp out the kids that they never should have had in the first place because they are totally consumed with getting…well, you probably can see where I’m going with this. You do have a partial point though, OP. We should be spaying and neutering certain humans with the same vigor.
So what is wrong with a 12 gauge?
Thank you Ethan!! Couldn’t have said it better myself.Standing ovation my friend. Finally, someone with a brain in their head that thinks logically.
You said it yourself, the cat problem is because of irresponsible pet owners. Why the hell should they get the money? My cats are more important, well one of them, the others adopted. Dogs should also get money because they can fetch shit for you, my cats can’t.
(Claps slowly then wipes single tear from right eye) Well said, Ethan, old bean.
I think we SHOULD give the money to stepping stone…IF they agree to use it to spay/nuder the junkies.
Yes, it sucks that Stepping Stone is having problems. But don’t take it out on the cats. We have a huge feral cat problem in this city that is likely to be greatly improved by the existence of this new program! If you’re going to get mad, get mad at the amount of money city hall throws at already wealthy developers!
Wealthy developers pay taxes, hookers don’t.
Hookers started out as children, and due to a bunch of poor life choices ended up sucking dick for meth. The cats got tossed out to survive on their own by shitty owners, some of them, probably hookers.
pitting charities against each other is pointless, it’s a one time thing. mike puffy could donate some of his expense money, that might include ladies/men of the evening
lolbums is a cute site, but it has a long way to go to catch up

I’ve been given no reason to give up on cats, but many reasons to give up on people. Most animals win over people. Except pigeons.
Cats have better personalities than most people.
Also $40,000 for a one time investment that will provide services in perpetuity is astronomically less than the investment necessary to help disadvantaged adults “find their way”.
I’m saying you’re wrong. Giving shit to people just means that you’re funding people’s bad choices.
Spaying and neutering stray cats means that you’re FIXING people’s bad choices.
If you THINK a little harder it’ll make more sense.
Hoist those “junkies” ARE human. That was a disgusting comment.
I apologize Crock, I must have given you some indication that I cared about your opinions. Maybe you should try to learn how to take a joke?
By the way, last week the Nova Scotia government announced funding of $900,000 to victims. However, Ross said it was not enough and much more stable funding was needed. At that point the resignation was announced.
Hoist I can take a joke when I hear one….Assholes are everywhere tonight.
Assholes should be spayed/neutered.
Some cheese to go with that whine?
If you try spaying/neutering an asshole, you’re doing it wrong.
Yep, wrong hole.I hate it when that happens

I agree, Crayons

Again, I agree mufuka

Sounds like a lot more than 40K, doesn’t it, Kirk? I agree with your sentiment.
OMG HOIST!
Thing about Stepping Stone is that it doesn’t advocate for junkies, it advocates for sex trade workers — be it male or female. Not ALL sex trade workers are junkies and I think pitting not for profits against each other is terrible. I support both Stepping Stone and the SPCA. I organized a conference a few years ago for the public service and Rene was our keynote speaker. She and Stepping Stone does great work and it’s a shame she has to step down, but this just shows how committed she is. She mentioned that one of their main stumbling blocks was being able to supply enough condoms to the people they help. Sex trade workers are, on the whole, VERY vigilant about using protection. I think there’s this horrible stereotype of sex trade workers that they’re shit under everyone’s shoe, but as Rene had pointed out to us, any one of your sons or daughters could end up in this trade and that many come from middle class families so we should think before we judge. Stepping Stone isn’t out there to help junkies score. They’re out there to keep sex trade workers safe.
On the other hand is the SPCA who cares for animals. Animals can’t care for themselves. My little girlie I adopted in February is 8 years old and hadn’t been spayed. Because of this, and her advanced age (and not being spayed for so long), she had a mammary mass that had been removed. It was non cancerous and she was spayed at the time of surgery, but there’s a chance that she could get other masses that could end up being cancerous. She was a stray. After three months of feeding her vet food (you can’t convince me vet food isn’t the best given the change in her health and appearance) she’s got energy, she’s filled out, her fur is puffy and she’s just a little treat to be around.
Humans are no more important and worthy than any other animal on the planet, it’s just that sometimes other animals need our help. And since it’s humans that domesticated dogs and cats, it’s our responsibility to help them out. There are a lot of people who don’t care about animals out there, and I really wonder sometimes where their souls are.
All the furry friends (and scaled, feathered, shelled, carapiced… ) are honorary members of The Captain’s crew. The money was well spent.
Lashings of thanks to DjGrrl and TTFonebone. Always happy to bring a smile.
Complete agreement with The Keptin, P.K., La Crayola, Canned, Mufuka, Painey & Hoist.
The day a feral cat robs my wife, I may be inclined to change my mind but until then….
40 Large wouldn’t even pay for a “study” to determine that “We have a problem with disadvantaed people falling through the cracks durka, durka…”
For the “It’s cheaper to just kill ’em” crowd I’d respond with, What do think, City Hall hires Darrell and Merle to go out with their crossbows and then pays them off in beer and hookers. Not quite that simple, or inexpensive.
This measure will provide a one-time solution for a current problem and as, such is money well spent. It won’t fix the problem of irresponsible shitstains abandoning their animals. But then, that vastly larger amount of money that we spend on rewarding people for their stupid lifestyle choices hasn’t really stemmed the tide either, has it?
The day a feral cat robs my wife, I may be inclined to change my mind but until then….
“The day a feral cat robs my wife, I may be inclined to change my mind but until then….”
Exactly. Animals are so innocent. All they want is to protect themselves. I’m doing some work at my dining room table right now and right under the table is my little girlie just curled up under the table with the sole intent on having a nap and keeping me company. And when i lean over to give her a pat, she washes my hand.
How in the world can you deny that that’s awesomely wonderful?
Also, NS is a ‘no kill’ province, so unless they are sick or suffering, animals are not put down — just the way it should be.
I agree with Ivan totally, cats, and most animals, are far more accepting than some humans.
I’d only alter my opinion the next time a cat shook an empty Tims cup in my direction and asked for some spare change.
We need a bus to go round at night and round up feral meth and dopers and it’s to be environmentally friendly by having the exhaust pumped directly back inside, take a deep breath in and exhale, are you feeling sleepy?
‘eeee, that were crackin’ good, Bazzer.
I’ve asked this before, but are you absolutely sure you aren’t my Dad?
He’s fond of saying, “I like my cat…more than I like most people” which is not quite true. He LOVES his cat, and despises most people.
“He LOVES his cat, and despises most people.”
Just as it should be, Uncle Ethan.

What Kitty said. ^
Err, mostly the first time. (Stupid mobile site.)
where’s Alf when you need him?
Since when have cats been more important than people? Since about 2000 BC, actually. I’ll give money to cats before (most) people any day.

Cities don’t financially support the welfare or health of it’s citizens; it’s the reponsibility of the Province (Darrell Dexter and his cronies) to provide those services. They don’t do that well enough.
They (the NDP) represented themselves are champions for the poor and sick but when they got into power (forty lashes for me), Mr. Dexter’s Bar fees were the important expenses, not food & shelter for those in need nor appropriate funding for health.

Cats will always be more important then people in my mind.
