To the couple who walked out on their bill at a certain downtown sushi restaurant: I was your server and I had to pay for your $45 meal and tip out to the kitchen on it as well. What is wrong with you? Do you enjoy taking advantage of others and causing people stress for no good reason other than to benefit yourselves? That’s pretty pathetic if you ask me. I thought we had a nice interaction, but maybe you are just good at hiding what awful people you are. I hope karma comes back to bite you at some point. If you are reading this and want to make things right then drop by the restaurant, apologize and pay for the nice dining experience that you essentially stole from me. And thanks again for ruining the rest of my shift, what you did really threw me off.

  1. It is illegal for your employer to make you pay for a dine & dash unless you colluded with the customer in some way or were negligent (which isn’t the case 99% of the time.) Your bosses fucking suck. Report them.

  2. The more I know about people, the more I want to barricade myself inside my compound with a paint ball gun.

  3. Shitty this happened to you and even shittier that your boss is lower than the patrons who skipped out.
Time for you to find another job.
I never made a server pay for a meal when I owned my restaurant. Not their own meal while working, or visiting for pleasure, and certainly never when a customer skips out.
Lots of restaurants in the city, time to go looking for a better employer.
    Good luck

  4. It apparently is only illegal to take it out of wages but having the employee cover it with their tips from that shift is not illegal unless they don’t make enough tips to cover it. Either way, I made more than enough tips to cover it and my boss bought me a $50 gift card to a nice restaurant downtown.
