All cab drivers just got a nice increase in their rates before Christmas. Damn they are lucky! I had to take a cab to get to work because I was injured and couldn’t walk. I was surprised by the almost $4 jump in what it cost me the last few times. Normally it would cost me, at the most $11 to take a cab to work. That day it was over $14! I told the cabbie I wasn’t impressed and he said it’s because of the 13 percent increase rate in their fees. You have no idea how that got me mad. I told him. This is not a 13 percent rate increase, it’s 30 percent or more! He knew after that that I wasn’t going to be fooled more. He was still expecting a tip. As if. Some of the drivers already take their own tips from us by giving back the wrong amount and not saying anything. The one reason I stopped paying cash. My salary has not moved in over four years! Worse is that the guy kept complaining after! Dude, I gave you what takes me more than an hour of work to earn. Thanks for the business, but I’ll bus/walk from now on. I hate when the cab drivers owe you like seven bucks and they give you a fiver then fuck around in their pockets pretending that they are trying to find the other two bucks they owe you… digging out quarters and nickles… meanwhile shaking their heads a little… leaving the passenger in that uncomfortable silence… and all the while it’s a ploy to waste time and hope you just say “forget it… ” so they can scam you out of the toonie or loonie or whatever. Sometimes they even pretend they have no fivers and start counting quarters and digging for more change…. in all the pockets, ash tray, cup holder, console, in the door, over the visor…. give me a fucking break! Normally I would give the dude a buck or something if they get me my change quick… but the sneaky fuckers that pull that shit… no fuckin’ way. Not me… when they start that shit… I will wait five minutes for a quarter. Assholes.
Out here, they cab you by minimum’s . It costs so much to go to the village, so much + a bit more to go to Shooters, or out to exit 8 etc.
The good part is if you got no problem traveling with someone who needs a lift going the same way while you are …you split the fare.
And its all done by cel phone , so when you call a cab, yer talkin’ to the driver ~:)

you might want to think how much the price of gas has gone up since they last had a rate increase. The driver pays his own gas, vehicle upkeep, ‘rent’ to the cab co (like Casino or Bob’s), etc. Not much left for profit (or as the rest of us like to call it – a living wage.

More I said that because I’ve never had a good experience with a cab driver.I’ve had a lot of great interactions with many peoples of colour and religions.I did say “MOST CAB DRIVERS”, I DID NOT offer an opinion on how I feel about the other cab drivers who do not assault women of all ages or rip a woman off because she is too afraid the cab driver will not allow her to get out of the car, if she doesn’t hand over the money he demands as payment.Payment that he knows is too much…Yes this has been my experience and I know of many more women who have been assaulted and or ripped off by male taxi drivers.

Wow, this went off topic.. I used cabs quite frequently in the past, now not so much. Transit, if I can do things within the 1.5/2hr time frame can get by on a transfer. I know the cabbies need to pay for their gas, but if they didn’t like the fare structure before, then maybe they should rethink the cabbie-thing.
