I would hate to be a person who is physically disabled. HRM has practically bound these people to their homes. Side walk clearance in a joke, and the goddamn curbs have 4ft of ice and stretch out into the road way. It’s bad enough for able bodied people trying not to fall and break anything, but for someone who has mobility issues, or fuck even a blind person it is absolutely disgusting.

I was waiting at a light yesterday when I noticed a elderly woman in a motorized wheelchair/scooter. She was sort of rocking back and forth until I rolled down my window and asked if she was having trouble. The poor soul was stuck on the ice and couldn’t get moving. She was so scared and upset she was shaking. I had some sand in the back of my car so I got out to put some down to see if it would help her to get moving. Thankfully it did and I filled one of my reusable bags for her so she could use some if she got stuck along the way anywhere.

If I was one of these people in such a situation I would be harassing my area rep for some kind of explanation for this bullshit job of ice clearance. Yes I understand it’s been too cold for ice for a little while but when the temp is good for it, then start putting it out! Or at least so traction gravel or something!!

  1. i think it is great that you went out of your way to help that woman … i am sure she was thankful, and you felt better for it. i agree that the sidewalks (especially the ones maintained by the city) and roads are a mess this year … it’s shameful, really.

  2. I glad you felt the need to mention it was a “reusable” bag. Get over yourself. But it was nice of you to help someone out.
