I am hoping that by posting this, I will be either shaming the person responsible into coming forward, or will locate a witness who can help:
On Thursday, Sept 2nd at around 9:30 am, my mother was driving on the #7 highway, from Sackville toward Dartmouth, about 3 km from Sackville and about 1km away from the Ammunition’s Depot, just before the Bedford/Sackville merge.
She was driving a silver Hyundai Accent hatchback in the far right lane and was pushed into the right-side ditch by a dark colored SUV attempting to change into her lane without bothering to look. Once she hit the ditch, she swerved back across both lanes of traffic, swiping the median on the left side and came to a stop where she very narrowly avoided being hit by an 18 wheeler. The driver of the SUV just kept going, not caring that he/she almost killed a mother of 3 who is about to be a grandmother for the first time in a few months. Her car is now destroyed and she is in massive amounts of pain from the whiplash effects.
I don’t want this thoughtless prick to get away with this, so if you or anyone you know were witness to this accident, please call the Halifax regional police, if anyone has a name or plate number that ends up panning out, we are offering a cash reward.

Was that the accident that backed up traffic for ages? I saw it going in the other direction. It was scary!
Does the OP have any other details of the SUV…..specific color, make/model, any other details would be great. I often travel that route so if I saw a vehicle matching your description, I would post it. There must have been witnesses?

Seriously though – this is scary shit. My boyfriend almost got into an accident himself a couple weeks ago when someone went off the road and then people were playing tourist at the bottom of a hill watching it all – it’s hard to stop at 110km because of some gawkers! He had to swerve right off the road, into the ditch then back up so that it wasn’t accident #2 on the site. Dumb driver.
This is not hwy 7, hwy 7 goes up the eastern shore way. This is called the Bedford Bypass or Magazine Hill or hwy 101 extension. not sure which one is the “real” name.
Piece of advice OP: Don’t mention the word “whiplash” to anyone else. As soon as insurance companies hear the term “whiplash” you’re seriously screwing yourself. And unless the SUV actually hit your mothers car, the police/insurance companies can’t/won’t do much about it.

Informant – This is Trunk 7, it officially starts in Bedford by Sunnyside and runs all the way to Antigonowhere.
Actually the Police CAN act if they have credible witnesses or evidence. I have complained about similar events (except that time the guy TRIED to push me off the road and I wouldn’t give) and the Police will at least pay the shitbag a visit to see if they confess, and if not the call stays on record.
If a driver does an act that causes another vehicle to get into an accident, then that person can be liable for damages.
Guyute/Bro Tim: Therein lies the problem. Finding a credible witness is damned near impossible these days. The other guys insurance company will find a way to have any witnesses dismissed pretty quickly. I know from my case last year.
Yea I’m curious as well. Did they touch your Mothers car? If not, sounds like poor decisions on your Moms part put her in a single vehicle accident. I’m sure SUV was a menace on the roads….but honk the horn and hold your ground.
