Suckulous wrote what I was just going to say. The hippie movement was a Sixties thing that lingered a little into the early seventies. At best, modern folk of the ilk could be called neo-hippies but only a minority of people identify as (neo)hippies so they are not really the revolutionary evolutionary force of our generation (60’s) that changed the world. They are but a drop of water trying to imitate an ocean.

The term ‘hippies’ has been bastardized and sodomized over the last 40 years – the only ‘real’ hippies are the ones who still follow the lifestyle they started many decades ago – I know many of those people, most of whom were quite successful in their work life. Typically, these fucking annoying pretenders have the same bleating mantra – they just want to sit around on a beatoff lime and orange tartan sofa in their parents basement, smoke a couple of plants and mind meld with their PS3s. What they don’t know is that the sofa is planning to drag them behind the furnace and peg their sorry asses to an epiphany of reality. But I digress.

As long as the person really is trying to become in touch with the world, and is not just saying it, then power to them.
A life of stationary living is akin to a prison for many. Imagine they told the great explorers of the past 5000 years to stop, just chill out and do what your dad does. Humans looking and reaching for things outside of their day-to-day is as natural as breathing.
