So, you lost your MP status during the last federal election… I wonder why?
What did the people of that riding know that the remainder of HRM doesn’t know?
I know the city is trying to be environmentally friendly, but some things just aren’t worth recycling…. they’re just plain garbage.
As someone who does pay attention and does read/listen/watch the news, I have to say I was a bit concerned with your questionable affiliations.
So before the campaigning even kicked into full gear, admittedly I had a few red flags.
Now I hear that, unlike all of the other mayoral contenders, you won’t divulge who has contributed to the excessively funded campaign.
So apparently the mayor’s seat is open to whoever can sponge the most in major dollars out of the (certain) self-interested business community, who are seeing dollar signs, when “their guy” wins, the contracts and special considerations and concessions can’t be far behind.
While the average citizens gain nothing but the tab for these endeavours that the privileged few business elite can sponge from the taxpayer.
All in the guise of doing a “big favour” for the residents who according to this group don’t have a clue what’s good for them.
Truth is this little group of privileged business elite, with their close relationship to the mayor are not good stewards of our taxpaying dollars as history has made evident.
What they do seem to excel at is lining their own pockets.
I sincerely believe city hall needs some new blood, new ideas, and a fresh perspective to represent the citizens of HRM.
The fact that you won’t divulge who the contributers to your campaign are, the ones who have allowed your mug to adorn every second billboard in town are, I see a serious red flag.
Prove me wrong, but I suspect backroom stick handling is what we the electorate of HRM should get used to for the next couple of years.
Apparently you don’t have to (by city charter) divulge your contributers until 60 days after the election.
Of course by then, your “well heeled elitist buddies” will have you on speed-dial to request you to pay back.
Sad that mayoral seat can be bought, and that HRM will be saddled once again.

  1. Buying yer political seat is the way its done, has been for a long time…. nothin’ new there ! They just don’t seem to hand out bottles of rum any more …shame really, at least you actually got something for your vote along with being reamed up the ass ! Now all you get is the ass reaming ! ! !

  2. It’s sad that the politician will win due to having the most money.
the chicken bicycle man is a joke too, how can you support bike lanes then fight the one trying to be installed in front of your own business?
Halifax is doomed to remain in the darkages for years, conservative and stale, fighting development and allowing crime to go crazy.

  3. Stan firmly opposes backroom deals.
    Stan has no affiliations business-wise.
Stan has made public the contributor he has.
Stan’s campaign has been revenue neutral.
Stan does not even have pockets to line.

Vote For Stan, cause figuratively speaking… Stan’s the man.

  4. haha, no they’re just right. i’m keeping with the bat/black cat theme and who knows what else til after hallowe’en

  5. Although it’s sad, it’s the reality of the situation.
I don’t think anything will change regardless of who we vote for. In fact, we really don’t have any qualified candidates. Read about the candidates, research their backgrounds and you’ll see no one is really a good candidate. I think I have an idea who’s going to win due to his connections and I believe it’s the same person the OP is referencing.
I personally believe Mike Savage is going to win. Big cops would want him to win and he has a lot of political backing. None of the other guys are as backed as he is.

  6. VOTE FOR FRED!

FREE EGGS AND STYLISH HAIRCUTS FOR EVERYONE!

Don’t listen to me I have no idea what I’m talking about.

  7. The guy with the most money donated by his rich and influential friends wins the race? Who saw that coming? This is an outrage!!! Stop the presses, there’s a new front page story a brewin’!!

  8. Mel No doubt Hank would get more accomplished than the idiots they have in Sentate.Hank is very handsome to boot.

  9. o.p., contrary to what you and others think, halisux is not for sale. it was sold out a long time ago, to the u.s. of assholes. believe it or don’t, just like the rest of canada has been sold to the chinese.
halifax owes out so much money, due to graft, corruption and whatnot, over the years. it just doesn’t belong to us any more. and canada has been devoured by the chinese, because of loans that the p.mm. engineered over his terms. so, we are fucked.

  10. It’s been sold. Here we had a chance for real change and what did this idiotic mess of a city do? Relected all incumbents in Districts they ran in save Uteck’s District. For fuck sakes 13 out of 16 Districts voted in the same dysfunctional Councillors they bitched about in the first place. And let’s not forget Mike “I’m not political” Savage. Will the electorate never learn.

I do have to make a confession. I did vote for the incumbent, but it was a choice between fish and pie and the pie looked much worse than the fish. Had there been another selction I would have taken it.

Well enjoy HRM you now have gotten what you deserve. I’ll guarantee that we will be bitching about these clowns within six months

  11. Oh and how about Sloane who told her bouncer to tell reporters to stay the hell out and they couldn’t come into her headquarters. So there is some good news Sloane and Uteck are gone.

And one last thing, there will be a by-election in District 4 because the lawyer will contest it saying she didn’t have the same amount of time to campaign.

  12. Those of us in district 1 had 2 choices, & both were already on the council. So if there had of been a 3rd or 4th choice chances are 1 of those 2 would still have been elected. Streeeetch (as in its a long one he’d actually do anything) was the District 1 councilor, now the new district one has elected Dalrymple the ‘pimple’ for its ass ….or should I say side ? But what did either of them ever say about the concert scandal ? Did they even notice when all the revenue was lost from the ‘deal’ set up by the trade centre exec’s on Metro centre ticket sales ? http://www.thechronicleherald.ca/editorial…
Did any of them ask even 1 question of our Mayor over his mishandling of his executor duties ? IMO all they did was sit on their fat asses & chew their cuds ! The only good thing about this election ….is we are going to have 7 fewer cattle at the trough, unfortunately its probably going to cost us even more ! !

  13. Well we shut down the Chicken Man in Hali last night.
And we threw out the Jock’s Wife too.
The Ex-Cop’s just another cold-case file.
And the Welsh Windbag’s boy is gonna give us the screw.

Now Dawn’s gonna miss all her media time.
And Barrington won’t get no relief.
All the money’s goin out to suburbia now
And ZombieGloria’s hangin on by the skin of her teeth.

Well nothin changes here Baby , that’s a fact.
The swarmers still swarm and the panhandlers do crack.
Transit service will remain a shame and a pity.
4 more of the same for this Atlantic city.

  14. It’s funny, dare I say hypocritical, to think some people (Tim) love Harper and his large “war chest” of contributions, made by all his rich and influential corporate/business buddies, but not Savage. The two of them were clearly painted with the same brush yet, one is a hero, and the other, a demon.

  15. Yup and we will all lose because of it, He talks the talk now let’s see if he walks the walk. Somehow I don’t think so.

SHITD, it’s not like the Liberals never had a huge warchest (they had more paper bags full of money than Mulroney could imagine) but we are talking municipal politics not provincial or federal.
