To the sick employee: please go home. The office is noisy enough for those of us who sit in the pods. To add to it you’re coughing up a lung and it’s non-stop coughing (you could at least shut your door).

You really should be at home. Please, really, the office will survive with you going home sick. And plus… we are all set up to work from home if we have to. Please go home…. I can’t stand it any longer! I’m sure the rest of the office would appreciate it. —Looking for a Hazmat suit

  1. It’s not even cold and flu season yet, and this employee is hacking up a lung (in a pod???). I agree, they should be at home. Maybe they have H1N2.

  2. Some people like to fashion themselves “heros” because obv coming to work sick shows their dedication…

…and blatant disregard for their co workers.

I had a boss once like this. Would come to work sick all the time and would never take a fucking day off. Even though five people in the office were diabetic and asthmatic (meaning it’s a lot harder on us when we catch your disease, asspick). I remember having to go to the hospital after a bad fall to see if my ankle was broken and they tried to guilt me out of it (though telling them my mom told me I had better get the x ray or she’d come get me and drag me over to the hospital by my ear – you don’t fuck with someone’s mom, yo, made them stfu real quick). And the first thing they said to me when I got back wasn’t “how’s your ankle” it was “get me your missed time work sheet to me asap.” Ugh.

  3. Showing up at work sick is just selfish. Seasonal illnesses are no stranger to anyone. Either budget for the eventuality or play catchup after the fact like the rest of us who aren’t so selfish manage to do.

I once had a sandwich made at a popular chain by a sick employee and when she was done I asked the manager if I could now have one made by someone who wasn’t coughing and sniffling whilst preparing my food. I only wanted the sandwich. They would have had to pay ME before I’d be happy about getting a side order of nasty virus. What’s the going rate for two weeks of absolute misery?

  4. Maybe they work at something like the call centres I used to slave at. Maybe they don’t get paid sicks days and have a kid to feed and house. Maybe they already took 2 sick days this year and have been verbally warned regarding their ‘tendency for absence’ and may lose their job if they call in again.

No matter how many times they tell us on tv and the radio to stay home if you’re ill, I have never worked for a company that didn’t make me feel like I was doing something wrong whenever I called in sick. It’s unfortunate, but if you make less than $15 bucks an hour in your job I bet you know exactly what I mean.
