  1. Hay I think this is incredibly entitled, inconsiderate and selfish to do this too, but maybe closing 15 minutes early could solve this?

I worked at a university library back in my student days and we locked the doors 15 minutes early every day to avoid this shit.

Short sightedness on the part of your store manager, along with inconsiderateness, OP.

I don’t take any calls or paperwork after 4:45 (4:15 now that we’re on summer hours) because I ain’t missin’ my bus because some stupid shit was too lazy to come in earlier or do things before the last minute.

YOUR EMERGENCY ISN’T NECESSARILY MY EMERGENCY, DAMNIT!

But hay, I just got yelled at by some jerkwad because my computer has another trojan and has been carted off to the IT shop and I don’t have access to my workflow software and couldn’t do what they wanted me to do and I had to tell them to call back tomorrow because the second person who does my job isn’t here today.

    Tough toodles. Shit happens.

  2. Valid, OB.
I went to a movie yesterday at Park Lane. When I got out the Burger Bear(Awwww) was 5 mins from closing. She seemed to still be serving so I asked, “I know you’re closing very soon, but would me getting a burger and soda screw you guys up?”
She said thanks for asking, what would you like.
Different places, different circumstances. Obviously a full restaurant 15 before closing would be completely different.

When in doubt, be very polite and ask, and xon’t pout if you’re told no.

p.s. I saw “8mm”. Good movie. If you see it, watch the credits. Funny stuff.

  3. Valid.

I hate last minuters. People don’t realize that them toddling in just before close delays the leaving of the employees. My shift ends at 5:00 bucko, not 5:10 or 5:20. I’m off the clock at 5:00 – and I don’t get paid for those extra 20mins you’ve kept me there. Not that I overly care anyway, but at quitting time I stop caring about your crap. If you so desperately need something done (as the pleas usually state) make your way in with sufficient time to get it done.

  4. OP, does your business have posted operating hours, like 9am-5pm. If a customer wants to come in at 4:59pm, you are expected to provide service. Otherwise change your hours to 9am – 4:45pm.

  5. Completely valid complaint.

At my coffee shop, we used to lock the doors 15 minutes prior to close to avoid this type of shit just because it’s a big place and we have a LOT of cleaning to do. We let the people inside stay until close and then they leave, but we don’t want anyone new coming in. You have no idea how much of a pain in the ass it is when someone comes in just before close, after I’ve cleaned everything, and they ask me to make them a drink that requires me to dirty everything again. Lol.
