Why the fuck, in 2011, with all the information and facts we have on drugs (specifically narcotics, prescription, and designer drugs), would you fucking idiots continue to take this shit? I figure I am at least average, if not slightly above, on the intelligence scale. But for the life of me I cannot understand this continuing trend! We KNOW how addictive these drugs can be. We KNOW the physical and mental harm they cause. We KNOW how these addictions continually destroy families and lives everyday. But, people keep making the stupid choice of trying these drugs, then they get hooked and the shit mentioned above happens. Brain function severely declines, your health is put at serious risk and you end up alienating your friends and family, lying and stealing if necessary… WTF?? Wake the fuck up people. Just stop. I am not saying this in reference to actual addictions, yes, they are much more difficult to control. But, if you make the choice not to bother in the first place, it will never get to that point! And if you DON’T know, educate yourselves goddamnit! Knowledge is power. I don’t know who said it but it holds very true. And parents educate your children, talk to them, don’t leave it all up to society and the schools. These are no longer fun party drugs… truthfully they never were.
And to all the doctors that so freely prescribe oxycodone, ‘contin, or any other extremely addictive pain killers, or nerve medications, GO FUCK YOURSELVES. For a few extra dollars, ’cause we all know you get more money if there are prescriptions being written, you’re fucking killing people and destroying families, children and ultimately society. And yes I am aware of how long some of these drugs have been being used throughout the ages… the world is a bigger place now, there are more people and evidently more addicts and more drugs! Everyday something happens that makes me lose faith in people. The worst people in all of this though, are the pushers. The doctors that prescribe this shit so freely and the the fucking absolute losers that make this shit, sell this shit, and benefit from the weaknesses of others. there may well be some doctors over prescribing….. But at the end of the day people make bad choices every day….. the blame lies squarely with those who choose to make the choice to consume them.

When I was in the hospital, my surgeon gave the instructions that I was to have dilaudid whenever I requested it and OH HAY I never became addicted. Imagine that!

Agreed, no one put a gun to these people’s heads. You pining about it isn’t gonna help. People have had self destructive addictions from the dawn of time. Some of us can party responsibly, and where there’s a demand for something there’s got to be a supplier. World works this way. Drug sales have put food on the table for many families. You gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.
I do agree though that drug addicts are idiots for the most part, but many addicts have common symptoms. So evidence suggests certain things lead to addiction, Things like trauma, being neglected or abused etc. Many users/addicts have serious problems that they use their drugs to escape from. So the real problem isn’t really the drugs it’s the circumstances that lead people to abuse themselves. Some people cut themselves. They don’t need drugs to abuse their bodies. Those people need help too, you know what I mean? It’s not just drugs, it’s what drives people to abuse themselves. Maybe we need to be more active in maintaining our mental health as a society.
I think it’s more constructive to focus on that then to blame drug dealers and users because that system has been in place long before we got here. If you can figure out a way to make it less profitable or unprofitable, then there are no longer any drugs on our streets, or in our kids schools.
But then so many well to do rehab counselors, social workers, border patrol agents, police and corrections officers will be out of work. We need drugs. Our military, or at least individuals within it, smuggles drugs into the country for christ’s sake. People have been getting high for centuries and aren’t about to stop any time soon… I say just focus on your own self OP.

I guess people take them because they are supa fun and usually guarantee kick ass times! There are certain people that shouldn’t take drugs. They have a greater chance of getting addicted. Luckily for me I am not one of them. I had my fair share of controlled substances and have stopped doing such things about 3 years ago. I was never addicted. I did them from time to time on my free time, never during work or school like some people I knew. But with those drugs comes all the bad things like hanging out with shitty people in shitty areas. That’s mostly the reason I decided I had my fun with them and was done. I did meet a fair share of naysayers though, most of whom had never touched the stuff and had a bunch of these ridiculous “facts” that made no sense. But yet they had no issue coming to me to find weed!

Yes, many drugs are harmful particularly recreational ones because they are illegal.The manufacturers of them are criminals and have no health guidelines to meet before they push their chemicals on users. Perhaps we should legalize all illicit drugs so we have some manufacturing standards and government has a revenue stream through taxation to help the subsequent addicts and social costs resulting.
One drug you did not mention was alcohol. Could you imagine if alcohol was a new drug and hit the street? This drug, if abused, makes people violent, lose memory and impairs them to the point where they cannot the simplest task. It would certainly never be legalized. But alcohol has been with humans through millennia and has a rich history in most cultures.
Your anger is understandable OP but I think the problem is drug abuse more than drugs themselves. Drugs have always been part of the human condition. Used properly, they lessen pain, depression and can help control diseases. A lot of people have weaknesses so they use drugs to help them, I have trouble getting started in the morning so caffeine is my drug of choice.

I’m with troodon. If we legalized (or at least decriminalized) and regulated all the common illegal drugs and used the tax revenue from the sale of these drugs for services for addicts, it would do a whole lot of good. For instance, the police could focus more on other crimes instead of busting everybody with a few joints or plants.

Insulin can be used by fetishists who like to fuck someone who’s passed out from low blood sugar and/or those who are hypoglycemic because apparently fucking while you’re hypoglycemic is really intense (which doesn’t make sense to me as someone who is hypoglycemic on a regular basis — last thing I want to do when I’m like that is have sex, but whateves). Does that mean it should be banned?
Clonazepam and lorazepam (klonopin and ativan, respectively) and other benzos can be abused by people who want to “trip out”… yet they can be the only thing that can calm those of us who experience panic attacks down…. does that mean they should be banned?
Frig, GRAVOL can be taken in high doses to create a tripped-out effect — should gravol be banned?
There are even cases where people can become addicted to OTC tylenol with codeine — does that mean it should be banned?
SSRIs/SNRIs/SDRIs can be overprescribed for sure (if you feel “high” when you’re on an AD, you probably don’t need it, or need a lower dose), but some need them just to feel normal and have their moods evened out — but since there are so many people who don’t need them who are on them, does that mean no one should be able to benefit? It’s not like anyone experiencing mental illness can get in to see a psychiatrist/psychologist in any reasonable time frame, so of course more people are put on them than necessary. If we had more shrinks available, I’d say half could probably be taken off of them, at least.
My point? Prescription drugs and OTC drugs are abused, but I don’t think those who aren’t abusing them and who need them should be punished because some asshat decided to use them recreationally.
Recreational drugs can be a fun and interesting experience. From what I have seen, one has to know themselves well enough and trust themselves enough to be able to say no at a point. Approaching things with an open mind and being able to experience something new and then walk away is key. Some people have that kind of self discipline, some do not. Not everyone that snorts a line is a coke addict, not everyone that drops some acid is a burned out hippie, and not everyone who enjoys an occasional opiate is dependent on it.

The same could be said for inhalants. How many of us has ever huffed on a magic marker at least once in our lives? I know I’m guilty. There are countless items out there that are available to the general public that can be used/abused to get high. Gasoline, glue, shoe polish, paint thinner, etc, etc. Anything that interupts the flow of oxygen to the brain, (whippits anyone?), even OXYGEN in large enough doses can produce a feeling of euphoria. Now, I’m not suggesting that taking a whiff of glue is anywhere near to being on the same level as tapping a vein as drug use goes, but it can be just as dangerous, just as detrimental to your health and lifestyle, just as addictive and just as hard a habit to try and kick. While you’ll never convince me that there is a requirement for drugs like heroine or cocaine which serve no benefit whatsoever, I tend to believe that it’s not the substance so much but the abuser who is to blame here.
