On Sunday ,Nov., 6 at about 1 PM, I took my wife to Emergency with a gallbladder attack and we sat there until 5 PM. She was crying in pain, as we watched the usual Sunday crowd of drunks and junkies come and go , laughing, playing with their phones and high fiving. When I got tired of this I asked the nurse when she would get in and was told ” when her turn comes” a while latter I told her
I was taking my wife to Halifax Emergency she said ” I don’t care ” . We left about 5 with out my wife being seen , she had gallbladder surgery Tuesday. Advice to anybody on the Dartmouth side, it’s just a short drive over the bridge to better service. —Un Happy Tax Payer

  1. I have left the DG ER many times because they had me sit there for hours, once while I was PREGNANT and BLEEDING (baby was fine in the end). I don’t think they know what triage actually means. I have filed complaints.

  2. The last few times I had to take my partner to the QEII ER (kidney stones & gallbladder attack), the average wait time was 7-9 hours.

  3. I’ve had the best emergency service at the QE2. I live in dartmouth and will go he extra distance to be seen there. I hate the dartmouth general. My last ever visit was for a severe case of strep throat where they handed me a bunch of large pills and expexted me to somehow swallow them with both sides of the back of my throat literally touching each other.

  4. Agreed, the DG blows. Word for the wise, if you are ever taken in an ambulance and are able to speak, tell them you live in Halifax. If you live in dartmouth, they automatically take you to that horrible dirty building of incompatence and suffering.

  5. Not sure if anyone knows this but Halifax ER doesn’t actually have anyone on duty between midnight and 4 or 5am, depending on when the shift starts.
There’s literally no staff available. Like actually shuts down for the night!
