BUYER BEWARE: If you buy a cottage lot and behind you is crown land or land leased to a mill company, they can cut every tree behind you which in turn can ruin your lake with undesirable run off. The machinery and trucks will run 24 hrs a day for several weeks at a time. The trucks will run over posted roads with a limit less than their weights. The contractors will change fluids on their gear back in the woods where supposedly no one sees it, but is against environmental laws, and then the officials involved will say they have done nothing wrong. RIGHT! Take a drive through the Liscomb Game/Wilderness area and see where the trees use to live with the wild animals in harmony. Not so anymore because of the massive tree cutting operations the animals have moved to the small towns and lakes no longer have fish in them. And of course how can we, the ordinary people, oppose companies of this magnitude when they have the province in their pockets? —Nature Native

Welcome to our world! The one where abuse of the planet we need to sustain ourselves is an everyday occurence as long as it means money in someone’s pocket. Paradoxically money means nothing on a planet that can no longer support life. Life VS money. Which one would you pick?
So you got a place in the country to ‘get away from it all’ on the weekends, city slicker. Guess where the people who own all that shit are based? And guess who they’re selling to? On snap.
Just stop using products made from trees.
a very good example of this can be seen up in stewiacke, and all thru that area, clearing at it’s best, or maybe it’s worst there. the land is now fucked, streams are dried up, water polluted, and the forest for the animals habitat is long gone. look at all the very old clear cuts, and there are many, and you will see the future of the latest victem. just fucking disgusting.
I frequently get a bird’s eye view of this province from the air.
I don’t think most people are aware of the extent of clear-cutting going on in Nova Scotia. It’s shocking and people rarely see it because it usually happens away from roads. When they clear cut near a well-traveled public road they leave a fringe of trees to screen the devastation and preserve a “nice view” for the motoring public.
Some might say it all boils down to economics and jobs.
Well, if those jobs aren’t here 10 years from now because of unsustainable forest management practices then they aren’t really jobs are they?
It’s the cod fishery all over again.
Are you a superhero, Commandante? Or one of them air patrolling po-lice looking for speeders?
I have been mistaken for a superhero. Others have called me a “Macgyver-like action hero” due to my many skills and talents, not to mention my physical resemblance to the Richard Dean Anderson, but I am neither of these. I am an airline pilot. God-like it’s true, but I still manage to fit my ego through most doorways.
…not to mention – Groupies!

Welcome to Nova Scotia!
OP, how small of a property did you buy? Next time, buy a nice large parcel of land….there are 100s of acres for sale on MLS.
