lol.. I have to laugh at this. Yes, because 2-3 months of intermittent sewage treatment completely reverses 300+ years of pollution. Pffft. I am as apt to eat a mollusk out of Halifax harbour as I am to take a swim in it, (meaning NEVER). And whomever subscribes to this way of thinking is only considering half the picture. Even if the sewage was 100% treated prior to being discharged into the harbour, you’re completely missing the fact that the harbour is an extremely busy international port with vessels of every shape and size and nationality coming and going, not to mention the navy, coast guard and other vessels who call this city ‘home port’. Nevermind the commercial and industrial shore establishments who operate in the harbour. (2 container wharfs, a flour company, an oil refinery, floating dry docks, a gypsum plant, NS power, various railyards to name but a few.) Do you have any idea how many bilges get illegally pumped overboard? How many fuel/hazmat spills, both accidental and intentional, occur on a yearly basis? Then there is the general run-off from both cities of Dartmouth and Halifax itself. I’m talking about the stuff that doesn’t make it to the storm sewers but just gets washed into the harbour because the city is essentially a big hill. Oil, vehicle fluids, road salt and any number of a host of chemicals/gunk that gets washed off the streets during one of our biblical rain storms. All this ends up in the harbour and no amount of sewage treatment can reduce it because it by-passes the treatment plants altogether. And finally, shellfish don’t typically ingest this crap and then pass it out of there system. (particularly true of heavy metals) It builds up in their bodies in a process called bioaccumulation and thus anything that eats them will ingest this dose of toxins along with the shellfish. This in turn, affects the whole food chain as the level of contamination increases in concentration as you move up to the next link in the chain. The bottom line is, you’re fooling yourself if you think that the shellfish, (or any other fish), is safe to eat out of the harbour, I don’t care how clear the water looks.
So wait, just because you’re mildly irked about the repetitiveness of the concert scandal story, means we should just move on and forget about it? I appreciate it’s longevity, but I don’t think anything regarding mayor culpability has been adequetely addressed. It would suck if every potential scandal was met with the same lackluster attitude, wherein if after one month (or two…), no clear identification of fradulence or deception is uncovered, we all turn a blind eye and ‘see what else is on.’. I definitely get that running an issue into the ground, hell bent on finding ‘THE TRUTH’, may be counter productive…but still! If individuals that we’ve placed in a position of political power have been shown to exhibit a pattern of morally and ethically reprehensible behavior…I want to know about it, and I sure as hell want as many details as possible, so that my votes and voice are as educated as they can be.

This just in, the Metallica concert might not happen because the city is going to deny Harold MacKay services like security and deny him any permits to put on the show even though it’s a different company than what is involved in the scandal. Even if it was the same company, he was given a FORGIVABLE loan anyway! This city is effing retarded.
