Dear Bar and Grill,
I had attended our establishment for dinner last night. When it came time for dessert we were faced with the question for bills, not “more drinks?” or “how about desserts” when we asked for dessert we were told that even though we had an open ‘account’ we could no longer order food only drinks. Working in the food industry i find this a little alarming and upsetting. the desserts live in a showcase, you get them from a wholesaler. i seriously believe that customers with open ‘accounts’ should be able to continue ordering food that does not involve being cooked (aka: deserts). If the kitchen is closed thats fabulous. Everyone deserves to get off work at a reasonable time especially kitchen staff. But come one. CAKE. thats all I wanted. If you can still charge for drinks on the computers after 10pm you can still charge for desserts.

Hope you didn’t tip these waiters-who-obviously-have-lives-outside-of-work-too! I know I wouldn’t.
If 10pm was when their kitchen closed, then I’m assuming that’s also when the food servers are sent home for the night. They were trying to get you to settle your bill so they could go home.
If it was me, I probably would have given your fat ass the slice of cake and settled the bill at the same time, but if you’re really “in the food industry” then you should be a little more sympathetic to their situation.
it would take less time to eat a slice of cake/pie than it would to have a coffee/tea or another ‘drink’.
We did still tip them. it is not the waitresses fault it is the establishments fault. There is no reason to punish the poor girl who informed us about our sudden lack of cake
After 10 is the time when people want cake. Seems a silly time to stop serving it. My friends and I go out for dinner and dessert all the time.
Sorry, I meant to say drinks and dessert.
I try and avoid this problem but not entering a restaurant within an hour of its posted closing time. Maybe the owners should suck it up and schedule/pay thier staff an 30 minutes or an hour past close to ensure they can serve guests right up to the time they close.
heh…”sudden lack of cake”
A disturbing situation if ever there was one.
The last time I worked as a server food safety protocols would not allow for my server’s hands to even make toast for you. In another bar/grill I worked in the dance floor chairs were stacked in front of the kitchen fridges. Maybe people are NOT inherently lazy and greedy? Maybe there are reasons WAY above your head to comprehend. The kitchen’s closed. No cake for you. How ’bout a cup of blueberry tea or a Baily’s stoked coffee with whipped cream and cherries?
