While cycling across the bridge I encountered two separate pedestrians in the bikeway. One was a jogger, the other a regular pedestrian. What gives? Why am I dodging peds who don’t belong there? Looked to see if the pedway was closed but no, there were pedestrians over there. Do these two have a grand need to feel special? Misplaced sense of entitlement? Too lazy to use the crosswalk to the correct side? Can’t read? Get a kick out of flouting the rules? Just don’t give a flying feck! Can you imagine the stink if I tried to ride my bike across the bridge pedway? There is a reason why there are separate sides for peds and cyclists. When on the downslope cruising at a fine speed hitting some self-entitled asshat suspended high above the harbour isn’t going to be a pretty outcome for either. —Absolutely Gobsmacked

  1. If you want to know how much it hurts to get into a bike accident due to a stupid pedestrian on the bikeway, ask Zane from TIBS! He had a terrible wipeout last year.

  2. You need some vacation/time off OB ?
next time wrap your bike right around the useless tit !
Then sue the bastard for damages & press charges through the bridge commission.

It is very clearly marked, & is a very legitimate bitch.

  3. bikes, bodies, and a ton or more of metal, is not a good match. you get thumped, and you could die. give me a nice big steel shell anyday.

  4. For the most part, I find it’s the cyclists who have the grand need to feel special and a misplaced sense of entitlement.

  5. Suckinator: ice big shells of steel have a way of trapping you inside when crashed, that’s why we have jaws of life, which are great if they can extricate you in time, unless of course all that gasoline you’re also carrying around has to opportunity to ignite your nice big steel trap. The merits of driving a car VS riding a bike…six of one, half a dozen of the other.

  6. Very valid bitch. Considering the amount of hate rained down on mingeing cyclists who use the sidewalk your anger is perfectly justified, Gobsmacked. Beyond common courtesy and common sense, it’s a safety issue to keep bikes and peds on separate paths. If they were Darkside bound and you had a cell phone I suppose you could have reported them to the notorious Bridge Police or for more satisfaction, an out-turned elbow – next time ^^^^

  7. I’ve never seen that! Sounds super annoying. I have hit a kid with my bike on a bike path once in England- he and his dumb friend were fixing something on his bike and he kept backing up and I kept trying to brake and ring my bell, but it was a steep downhill, the next thing I knew, bam! He was OK, he growled at his friend for not saying anything (the other kid just stood there and watched) and I went home and cried :O

  8. I’ve seen a cyclist riding down the middle of the bridge one morning.

OP. There are all sorts of fidiots that surround us. Patience young Skywalker!

(By the way OP, I bike too. So I understand your agony)

  9. Today, while walking across the bridge pedway I was passed by a cyclist -riding, not walking the bike- Halifax to Dartmouth. I can see the appeal. Easier to access. Bikeway access on the Halifax side is brutal at the beginning of the season before leg muscles are up for that steep uphill loop under the bridge before tackling the uphill slope of the first half of the bikeway.

  10. I walked home across the bridge yesterday and saw two cyclists on the walk way, looking totally fucking stunned.. maybe it was the OP thinking she was in the bike lane

  11. I never understood why they separted the two paths anyway. Seemed unneccessary to me as though we literally can not share space, but it’s not up to me to decide so whatever. This OP just proves once again that no matter what type of transport we use, we get ragey at others.

  12. Now the fucking bicycles think they own the bridge too. Fuck ’em. Pedestrians, walk where you feel like on the bridge.

  13. Well on the road it is the bikes that are in the way of cars on the bridge it is the pedestrians that are in the way of bikes. Come on people let’s just suck it up we are all annoying drivers, bikers, and pedestrians. HAHA
