OK, why in the hell is it so darned expensive to get to Halifax?? I flew from Boston MA to Sydney AU *ROUND TRIP* for $800 dollars. Air Canada customer service keeps telling me that it’s 800 bucks just to get to Hali *ROUND TRIP* from BOSTON. Give me a break!! For such a motherfucking short distance?? I’m already a broke student as it is, you airline companies can go to hell.

  1. That sucks man… with all the money I’ve spent on overpriced flights I could have bought my own plane and taken night classes to get my pilot’s license.

  2. Why not fly to Hali on an american airline then? They would probably be cheaper. Also, $800 can’t be the normal price for that flight.

  3. Stop handjobbing expedia/travelocity/etc. and go talk to a travel agent in person. They’ll find you the cheapest flight imaginable. And if you’re a student, actually, Travel Cuts? Hi?

  4. sometimes it’s $500 just to fly to Sydney (Cape Breton) from Halifax. It’s a 45 minutes flight, ffs. Does porter fly out of boston? I love porter, they are cheap and they treat you right.

  5. Boston is a Major airport, its a “Hub” Halifax isn’t. that’s why it costs so much to fly out of halifax. airlines don’t make enough from half full halifax flights as they do on over-booked boston flights

  6. If you buy your ticket through United, it’s way cheaper, and since they codeshare with Air Canada anyways, you’re actually flying on the AC planes!

  7. Halifax-Boston ferry = sickest idea ever. Try the Yahoo travel website (google “yahoo farechase”) they will do a search and usually come back with the most decent prices, American airlines included. I never fly Air Canada unless it’s the cheapest – which is rarely. I think the state of the airline industry in Canada is fucking criminal.

  8. The Cat only goes Yarmouth to Bar Harbour Maine.. So you have to drive 3 hours from Hfx to Yarmouth, take the Cat to Bar Harbour, then you only have about a 7 hr drive to Boston!!

So 10 hrs driving, and if you take your car, about $130 for yourself and car on the Cat (2 1/2 hr trip).. plus gas is probably a LOT cheaper than $800..

But then flying, total trip time is about 3 hours.. You could take the bus also… Halifax to Saint John, then Saint John to Bangor, then Bangor to Boston.. good luck with that… not too expensive, but lots of waiting for the next bus, especially in Saint John..

  9. “lots of waiting for the next bus, especially in Saint John..”

And who the hell would want to spend anymore time than they have to in Saint John?

  10. I’d still drive if it were me. always wanted to go on the cat…
I love that the maiden voyage had 666 people on it.
