In what world is it ok for a network TV to allow commercial air time to a recently convicted aquaculture company? I am there to watch some of your amazing progamming not to be insulted and assulted by blantly wrong and misinformed commercials aimed at the public regarding fish farming acitivities. Your commercial is not heartwarming, it isnot accurate, and you are trying to smooth over your image by piggybacking on the hardworking individuals who work for you? I don’t think so.
I think it is absolutely appalling that CTV would allow commercial air time to a known and convicted felon of the federal Fisheries Act, in one of the largest levied fines in history for INTENTIONALLY using a pesticide on its fish to kill sealice (a problem which aquaculture itself inherently creates) and then as a result kill fresh, wild lobster.
If I were you, I’d be thinking long and hard about what organizations and industry you were willing to promote and provide commercial air time to. As a result you may wind up losing some valued viewers cause I know I sure as hell wont be watching until those commercials are removed. —Offering Air Time To Convicted Felon

  1. you are angry at the ctv or the felon? i kinda get what you’re talking about, but it’s not a story i have been following

  2. Woooof….how many commercials would there be if they cut out all the morally questionables?

In short, Company X pays for commercial space. Station Y takes said money and places ad, as long as it doesn’t affect viewership and in turn, affects advertising revenue (or breaks CRTC rules).

I don’t think the fish farming issue is strong enough to cause a backlash. Sorry.

  3. Scooter you beat me to it. Just about every large national/international business has been successfully sued or convicted of some crime or involved in one kind of scandal or another.

  4. I had a fish farm once…
I planted 200 of those damn salmon and not one grew into a salmon tree.

  5. Yes, I have seen that ad. They refer to them as “farmers” which is a good ploy because who can get mad at a farmer?
This whole biz does have political overtones as our elected politicos strongly back it. Jury is still out for me on fish farming.

  6. Reg, no different than a cattle or sheep or pig farmer, only one is on land the other the sea.
