When there’s a storm coming, the EMO tells us to include batteries in our emergency kits. One assumes this is to power a portable radio. What for? It’s not like we have many, if any, radio stations that have live DJs these days. Caught a little bit on one station, but they were just getting “How is your neighbourhood?” updates from their morning crew.

Even the information station, 107.7, was pretty useless after you’d listened to the same outdated interviews over and over again. —The storm wasn’t nearly as bad as the coverage of it

  1. Because, dumbass, EMO could send out messages for the radio stations to broadcast. They do that, y’know.

  2. The most useful thing I got from the radio was when some station played Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” and Damita Jo’s “I’ll Be There” back to back. What an awesome voice she had.

  3. I ain’t listening to no emo radio station….
who wants to listen to Jimmy Eat World and New Found Glory all fucking day.
    ug.

  4. Anyone who wasn’t aware that Earl was coming was obviously too stupid to figure out what batteries are for.

  5. If anything good came out of the storm it at least gave the media something to talk about (the Chronicly Horrid headlines were priceless) and it created big bucks for the big stores. I am sure the Sobeys and Gaelen Weston are just waiting for the next storm…

  6. Some of us are lucky enough to live in the better off neighborhoods of HRM which didn’t even have the lights flicked off at all.

  7. Sebastian, are you a troll or are you really that much of an asshole? You must have a sad life and it must be difficult being so negative all the time.

OP: Why would you assume they are for a radio? It’s obviously for flashlights… if this is your biggest concern in life right now I say you have it too easy.

  8. I am with jennier. In fact, I would go so far as to bet that the EMO tells us to include batteries in emergency kits for THIS EXACT REASON. Oh, and for electric can openers…….. 😛

  9. Newsflash, Sebastard: some “better” parts of town did, indeed, lose their power.

I didn’t lose mine, but I’m on a freaking awesome grid and my power almost never goes out. Ever.
