
If it wasn’t so early in the morning I’d make all sorts of insightful, er, insights about how there’s a seamless gradation from admiring athletic prowess to a more vulgar (in the Latin sense) appreciation of physical beauty, blah, blah, blah. But seeing how I’m still on my first cup of Joe, I’m just wondering where in Halifax they sell these “lad’s magazines”:
At the Beijing Games, no fewer than three current Olympians — multiple medal-winning U.S. swimmer Amanda Beard, Australian swimmer Stephanie Rice (who has already won gold in the 400-metre individual medley) and U.S. high jumper Amy Acuff — have posed for what the British affectionately call “lads’ magazines,” respectively in FHM (For Him Magazine) and Playboy; FHM; and FHM, Maxim and Playboy.

I’m sure a quality magazine shop like the Atlantic News carries such materials. But, what about these: the soft porn provided by the Chinese to athletes in the Olympic Village.
