Snowboarding like a Canada Games athlete starts with a lesson.

Canada Winter Games athletes will hit the hills at Martock, near Windsor, to compete. At 45 minutes outside of Halifax, it’s an easy place for you to snowboard, too. Group and private lessons are available, with lessons for first-time snowboarders offered twice a day on weekends and holidays, $49.95 (equipment rental included), and an eight-week group Rider Improvement Program for novice to intermediate snowboarders, $170, on Saturdays, or a women-only program on Thursday nights. Regular lift tickets are $36-$25, getting cheaper later in the day. Ski Wentworth has a Saturday freestyle snowboard league and offers a daily $49.95 introductory group lesson as well, or private lessons; lift tickets are $42 in the day or $27 at night.
