I blame myself. Second half. The tension roils. Someone comes by in a car and offers to drive me to the market, so I stop viewing. I go fulfill my familial obligations. Groceries are bought. Canada ties with China. Without my critical voice, my Canadian team lacked the chutzpah to go for the killing stroke. Know what I am saying? I felt for 45 minutes I bonded with the ladies soccer team. Like Anne Murray said, they needed me. You don’t understand. This man does. So does Gene Hamm, a 37-year-old elevator mechanic from Staten Island. He’s a New York Mets fan who was analyzed in this New York Times piece about the the psychology of fandom. (Are Mets fans analogous to Canada fans? In the shadow of giants, etc…) Maybe the best work about the creepy psychology of the obsessive fan is Frederick Exley’s A Fans Notes. Great book. Creepy author. Sue, if I start to act like Fred Exley, let me know please.

Andy Murdoch is an awesome guy.
