When you think destination wedding, Halifax probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind. But for Toronto couple Heather Walker and Trumell Duncan, this salty east coast city of ours was the prime spot for the “simple, small and stress-free” day they envisioned—the ultimate Canadian destination wedding. “It allowed us to focus on each other, our amazing family and friends, and the enjoying our trip,” says Heather of last summer’s vacation. “Some of the best memories of the trip were not actually from the wedding day—day-tripping out to Peggy’s Cove with our family, hiking around Point Pleasant with our friends and dancing at the Split Crow!” With unforgettable details, like a ring fumble from the groomsman, a cocktail cruise on the Tall Ship Silva and Heather saying “I do” in her mom’s wedding dress—originally bought at Halifax’s Winchester’s—it was an intimate and fun-loving vacation for everyone
involved. Which probably had a lot to do with the couple’s chill vibe. “Don’t sweat the small stuff,” says Heather. “Rather than aiming for everything to be perfect, have fun and be present in the moment.”
