Did you know that the word “biathlon” means “two tests” in Greek? It seems that the sport, which combines cross-country skiing with target shooting, has its origins in ancient traditions of skiing and hunting dating back more than 4,000 years. If you’d like to reconnect with your prehistoric roots and train for these two ancient tests, you’re in luck. Located only 45 minutes from downtown Halifax, Martock Nordic Ski Club now boasts seven kilometres of ski trails and Nova Scotia’s only biathlon shooting range. And while it’s too late to join this year’s intro to biathlon classes, you can check out the brand spanking new Canada Winter Games trails and get an introduction to the sport on January 22 during the club’s open house. Ski Martock also offers intro-to-skate-skiing classes.
