Ashley Molenaar and Shawn Lush wanted a wedding fit for the Mad Hatter. The Hants East Rural High sweethearts dated for seven years before Shawn popped the question one freezing November day on the Halifax waterfront, and the couple wasted no time on the DIY wedding theme. Ashley collected teacups from thrift shops over the winter and her sister designed the Alice in Wonderland-themed invitations, wine labels and program, complete with instructions such as “Read Me,” “Open Me,” “Don’t Be Late,” while also making the sage vintage bridesmaids’ dresses.
Ashley and Shawn asked their guests to wear something with a vintage feel—Ashley’s lace dress and Shawn’s top hat and peacock feather set the scene—leading to an afternoon tea party of garden games filled with lace, pearls and hats.
