Sherraine Schalm, our best chance for a fencing medal, just got knocked out of the epee competition. In a quote that ought to go down in the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, she told the CBC, “It’s like I imagine being a man. It’s like being kicked in the nuts repeatedly, that’s how bad it feels. You feel like you want to curl up and die.” But check out the comments that follow this story. The armchair experts out there are buckling under the threat of a shut out! They can’t take the pressure. Not us here at The Coast. We’ve been training for this moment. We have another week or so of this. We can take the defeat.

We think we saw her say, “Fuck you’ to the winner. So not Canuck Sherraine…
The really disturbing thing about all this is of course, not the ‘fuck you’. It’s Schlam’s sexist need to invoke the pain of getting kicked in the nuts when she could have just reminded us all of what it feels like to be a girl and fall onto the crossbar of your bike. Yee-ouch!
