A tasty plate of olde Ireland, right in Cole Harbour!

Working downtown has its perks—offices that are walking distance
from a plentiful number of bars and restaurants is one—but if you
live outside the core, the commute’s not an easy feat. Next time you’re
headed home stop into one of these three joints to relax and wait out
the traffic. They’re just a few of many choices on packed,
homeward-bound routes.

The Armview

While not really out of town, this diner is nestled on the corner of
a major beat home—the rotary. The after-work watering hole is dressed
in retro chic and ready to serve you whatever drink and food you crave
post-eight-hour shift. A new lounge—opening in the next month—will
give you all the relaxing space you need.

Jamieson’s Irish-House & Grill

“A little bit of a hybrid, out in the ‘burbs, and a true local
spot,” says owner Chris Smith of his Best Restaurant-winning
Irish-House (according to this year’s Best of Food poll for Cole
Harbour). Two alcoves with wingback chairs, cast-iron fireplaces, a
large variety of single malt scotch and wines by the glass will welcome
you (almost) home.

Winston’s

If listening to live music is your way of relaxing, you’ve come to
the right spot. Winston’s hosts local acts frequently, with two
separate areas for performances. Fridays bring martini nights, and
Thursdays give you a wine fest. There’s also good news for steak fans:
operator Scott Samways says the pub area’s changing into a steakhouse
in the next two weeks.

  1. Interesting. Winston’s is really trying to shed the ol’ Copper Penny image. This one really isn’t out of town either.

  2. My friend and I visited Winstons for wings n beer, BUT only when the Timberlea Tavern was too packed… hint hint – the Timberlea Tavern definitely deserves a visit, and not just for the wings n beer. As for Winstons, bland and sloppy service

  3. The ol’ Timberlea Tavern. Great for wings, but you really need to get over the whole fact that it’s a hole.

  4. I have to disagree…I think the Timberlea Tavern is great. I’ve eaten there several times, wings, clams and chips, fish and chips, sampler platter, club house….alway the best food and lots of it. Not to mention that the staff is A1.
