U2 comes to Moncton

BONO HUNGRY Oh hi guys. Happy Monday! So a number of sources have confirmed today that U2 is indeed playing Magnetic Hill on July 30th. And yep, The Arcade Fire are opening. Unfortunately pretty much all the hotels in Moncton are booked (people began booking when the rumours began circulating last week) so you should just go all Matt Foley on this business and park your van down by the river for the evening. gotta go get my frickin’ parkin’ spot! In an interesting but totally unrelated note, the dude who invented Le Blogotechque (the beautiful off-the-cuff band performances filmed

Buck 65 talks

Buck 65’s new album 20 Odd Years comes out on February 1st and features a series of all-new songs and collaborations with Gord Downie, Jenn Grant, Nick Thorburn (of Islands and Unicorns fame) and others. (You can pre-order it here.) Buck/Rich Terfry was in town filming a video for the song “Zombie Delight” at the Bloomfield Centre and when I met with him, he was doing interviews on a makeshift newsroom set, wearing a suit and tie, the floor around him smeared with blood. So I was wondering where this song came from. Are you a fan of zombies?

Introducing: We’re Doomed

Tiffany Naughlerfor more of tiffany naughler’s rad photos, go to noisography.com We’re Doomed are a riff-y new prog rock ensemble featuring Simon Outhit and Nick Jones on guitar, Scott Tiller on drums, Mike Andrews on bass, and brand-new vocalist James Kelly. Despite their rather shocking youth (their age range is 19-22) these earnest and forthright young men have all logged hours in other bands, including In This Style and Black Moor, while Tiller and Andrews are currently studying music at NSCC. Their level of experience is pretty evident by their onstage assurance, and that’s why I wanted to talk to

Long Duz Mike

I love when Duzheknew plays shows because they always somehow manage to amalgamate the name of each band on the lineup into an onomatopoeic email title (see above.) In an interesting but somehow sort of ideal triplicate, they will be joining Long Long Long and Mike O’Neill at the Seahorse this Saturday. O’Neill will be performing an entire set based on the lives of various composers because of course he is and Mike O’Neill, I just fucking love you. Meanwhile Duzheknew will be doing the music thing and also doing the zine thing, releasing a work entitled “T-Shirt Rapidshare”

Jenn Grant’s glow

The night was going well until the dog disappeared. Outside, the first blizzard of the year rages, but Jenn Grant’s kitchen is warm. The house used to be a crack den until Daniel Ledwell, Grant’s fiance—and producer of her new album, Honeymoon Punch—bought it. After a year of renovations, the place is pretty and snug. […]

You Can Apply to HPX 2011 Now

Apply here!Fest runs from October 18-22 this year. In a completely unrelated note, my friend Michel was all like “I’m going to listen to DBC, they’re coming to Gus’, you would be an idiot not to go” and I was like “What’s that?” because I don’t know anything. And then, suddenly, the doors of 80’s Montreal thrash metal opened to me of their own volition: Things get real around 1:07. They play Gus’ as part of Hell Freezes Over on Saturday night. I think it’s $10.

B.A.’s Cheesy Birthday

i took this three years ago aw This weekend heralds the annual two-day drunk that accompanies the birth of the one-man genius of love, B.A. Johnston. He has assembled a powerful line-up to surround him on these two evenings: Friday features Homo Duplex, Bad Vibrations, Fat Stupids, and Hymn while on Saturday Windom Earle, Quivers and the Deadly Hearts bolster the show (both shows are $6.) And as a bonus (like, do you really need a bonus?) the show has been advertised as having an all-you-can-eat Cheezie bar. While I think Cheezies are kind of sick (I hate how your

Press blurb below. “On the “Doolittle Tour,” the Pixies – Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering – perform all of the songs from their 1989 classic Doolittle and its related B-sides. “Weird at My School,” “Dancing the Manta
