You might be surprised to learn Dweezil Zappa wears many hats. In addition to sharing late father Frank Zappa’s grandiose musical visions (Wikipedia says he’s currently working on a 75-minute guitar solo epic featuring every major living guitarist, which sounds either totally amazing or absolutely wretched) ol’ Dweez has made cameo appearances in movies like The Running Man and Pretty in Pink, guested on Weird Al Yankovic albums and notably dumped Lisa Loeb after a six-year relationship.I guess he just couldn’t “Stay“. And boom goes the dynamite.
Now he’s on tour with an “ongoing homage to Frank Zappa’s music” and will be bringing it to the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium on Tuesday, July 6 (ticket info is forthcoming). I don’t know whether to be sort of creeped out or impressed that he’s continued to take on the Zappa discography—-that shit cannot be easy to learn, even for a Zappa. I’m quite jazzed that he knows “Muffin Man”—-a personal favorite. Video below.

I don’t know if Dweezil can possibly live up to his legendary father, but I guess I’m going to have to buy a ticket and find out.
My very first concert ever was at Maple Leaf Gardens in the 80’s…4th row centre…performer: FRANK ZAPPA! It was wild, weird and wonderful all at the same time back in the good old concert days when the audience supplied the smoke effects:) You coulda cut it with a knife at that show!
