I have to admit I was a little afraid. Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf is a harrowing play, and it’s a long play. On top of that, in the Dal Theatre Society Production, it’s a play about a world-worn middle-aged-couple played by two fresh-faced twenty-somethings. Scary stuff.
Well, my fears proved unfounded. The play was indeed harrowing, but in all the right ways. It crackled with energy and sexual tension. Jordan Gracie and Johnelle Sciochetti show maturity beyond their years as the twisted, tortured couple George and Martha. Tom Lute is pitch-perfect as the ambitious young professor who becomes the cat’s paw in George Martha’s cruel games. And Charlotte Weeks is a comic treat as the “delicate” and bubble-headed Honey.
It’s strange that there is no director listed in the program, as I felt that this production had a clear vision. The action was well choreographed, and the comedy in this comic-tragedy really shone. Bravo to all who brought this frightfully good production to the stage.

considering their director quit a week before the show, they did an amazing job!
I think it speaks volumes to the professionalism of the actors and stage management and crew invovled to produce such an intense and reviting performance with no clear director accredited. The personal interation and coheasion between the actors, which was clearly displayed during the performance, must have contributed to the flawless production, direction and execution of a very difficult and challenging performance.
