It’s a “circus comes to town” atmosphere at the Common this afternoon. Like a few people I spoke to who heard a little “Let it Be” piano, I went for a quick peek. No Paulie, but there are tons of people on the Common, soaking up sun, lounging in lawnchairs, snapping photos and playing frisbee. There’s even a group with a guitar and a Beatles songbook knowledge, entertaining everyone. There’s still quite a bit of the Common that’s accessible, and there are even drinking fountains, if your voice gets harsh after your sixth rendition of “Strawberry Fields Forever.”

If this gets Paul Mccartney to bite, I’m a monkey’s uncle. Then again, why not? Come on Paul, join the cast of real life for a little and come on, “play” with us. You won’t regret it. Besides, unlike almost all of everywhere else in this world, I doubt you’d get mobbed here. Most of us are too mellow for that. Isn’t Nova Scotia great? (o.k. Cape Breton’s better, but I live here, eh?) And if you talk to that *!?/, our “Mayor” Peter Kelly, tell him the next time you come, you don’t want to play on the Commons. No offence to you, but the actual “common” people would like to be able to use it for the rest of the summer. Unlike some of the fortunate, I don’t have $125 (or more!) for a ticket and I suspect allot of others are in the same boat. Most of these are the people that use the Commons for baseball, soccer (you call it football) and many other activities. What kind of a world is it when little children can’t even fly their kites on the Commons because there is now private, paid concerts there. So come on Paul, stick up for us too and tell our Mayor what is what. You stick up for lots of good causes, so please listen to the ordinary folks and let us be one. And please come back. You’d be smashing in ‘A Christmas Carol’ this season. Ta for now -Mel :-)!
