We were tipped off that a number of bands and industry folk scheduled to attend the Junos have had their flights delayed today due to fog in St. John’s.
Josie Dye, the midday announcer for Toronto rock station 102.1 The Edge, has issued a volume of live Tweets on the issue, starting yesterday when she was on board a Porter flight to Halifax “For every “down” there is an “up” bump. The “downs” are just more easily noticed,” she posts. An hour later: “Stuck in Halifax, not getting out of here. I AM COMING ST JOHNS, PLEASE WAIT FOR ME!!!!” Things did not get better for Ms. Dye, as six hours ago, she wrote: “F ME!!!!! FLIGHT DELAYED.” And finally, and ominously: “RT @curlybecs: Omg. Reports from friends in TO say no more Air Canada flights from TO to St Johns today. All cancelled #yikes #junos.”

Dye then updates about the company she’s keeping while stranded: “Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Wintersleep, Down With Webster, Lazy Bones, Metric, all in airport with me….” It seems the bands are occupying themselves while stuck: “Bands have started to play,” Dye wrote three hours ago.

If Dye is correct, it means that a shitload of high-profile bands will be hanging out in the city tonight while they wait for flights to be rescheduled. No word on what the fog situation is or whether people will manage to get out at all.

Metric themselves posted two days ago that “Travel nightmare redeemed by the staff at The Press Gang in Halifax. Thank you for saving us!” Other bands have been relatively silent on Twitter, although Muchmoremusic VJ Matt Wells (who also plays in the aforementioned Lazy Bones) has confirmed the duo are definitely hanging tight in Halifax tonight.

Update: A little birdy named Tara Thorne just wrote us and said that Lazybones will be playing a “secret” show at the Carleton tonight, if ya’ll are interested.

Update: Skratch Bastid Tweeted an hour ago: “Plane moving. See you soon Newfoundland.”

Update: A birdie told us that Warner rep John Poirier’s plane flew to Newfoundland…and just turned around to head back to Halifax.

More updates to come as we get ’em. Follow me @AliceGalang where I will be posting tweets from Loukas Crowther’s iPhone where we will be posted at Charlie’s, probably.

4:16pm update: User @stefancarew posted: Fog has lifted ! Get some flights into St. Johns stat ! #junos.

  2. Apparently the Carleton is the place to go tonight for sightings:
