Return to Cookie Mountain
(4AD)
Sometimes something comes along that will affect everything that comes after it. No one who heard the fragile brilliance of TV on the Radio’s Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes thought it was merely a glance into a promising band’s potential. Somehow though, it was. Return to Cookie Mountain is epic.

Oh no! 100km! Holy crap! That’s criminal! That highway is engineered to handle speeds of well over 110km so the road is not the problem. As well, it’s pretty damm normal for city driving to be somewhat over posted speed limits anyway. Now I’m not saying 130 is a good idea but simply because 80 is posted doesn’t make it a logical speed. People following the speed limit to the letter are often scared drivers to begin with and the causes of traffic problems themselves.
It’s called a “Speed Limit”, not a “Speed Suggestion” WDNNSPL. It’s set at a certain speed for the saftey of cars in that particular section of roadway. So unless your a highway engineer and can explain why 80 is “not logical” just try deal with the majority of drivers who don’t want a $300 ticket for doing 20KM/H over the POSTED limit.
OK KRR, here’s some info. Speed limits almost always do not reflect the engineering of a roadway (feel free to ask an engineer) because people drive faster than they are set, priorities change over time, transportation systems are not static, etc. Secondly, speed limits as a general rule on municipal roads quite often reflect political/worried mother syndrome rather than realistic traffic engineering. Now, even though this is a provincial road, they are also not immune to these sorts of things. Thirdly, are you discussing highway engineering or speeding incentives? You logic with the ticket comment is seriously flawed.Effective traffic flow is not dependant on set speed limits and as for safety….LMFAO! Do you really thing 80 as opposed to 100 makes any difference at all? The biggest problem for highway driving is with the people who are too afraid to actually drive. Again, not extolling the virtues of going 130 but seriously.
Thank you Mr. Traffic-Politics-Psychology professor. I am completly humbled. But I still agree with Slow and Safe and think people speeding are more of a hazard than people obeying the posted limit. You seem to disagree, good for you. Happy driving.
KKR try following the “flow” of traffic. You’re as much of a problem on the highway as the guy doing 130 is.
First of all, the highway has a built in safety of factor of at least 1.5 so 120km/h is not a big deal. I’ve done 140 without any problems. It’s just a matter of when/where you do it. You don’t do it when there’a a lot of traffic and low/poor visibility. Secondly, if you want to travel slowly , stay in the RIGHT hand lane. If you want to pass, pass and get back into the right lane asap. Don’t hog the left lane unless you’re willing to pass anything/everything so that you don’t tie up traffic.Thirdly, go with the flow of traffic. That’s the key. If everyone’s going 100, you better be prepared to do so as well. If not, you’ll be tying up traffic and will be the cause of a crash. If you don’t like any of the above, then stay off the highways and stick to the city streets instead. The speed limit there’s only 60 max. If you think the higher speeds of the highways are so dangerous, just remember, the majority of “accidents” occur in the city, not the highway. If you’ve read your driver’s manual, it’ll tell you that highways are actually safer than city roads. Remember folks, KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS. That goes for inside the city as well as on the highway. Finally, pass or be passed. Don’t bitch about speeding. Bitch about the morons who are recklessly speeding. Speed is not the # cause of deaths on the roads. It’s driver inattention!
I agree with you 100% Speedy!
The people who speed are usually the ones whining and stomping like little kids when they get pulled over. Then they can’t figure out what they did wrong, and try to blame it on law enforcement. Speed kills, going 30 over the speed limit usually doesn’t get you there any faster anyway. And if you get pulled over, at least have the guts to take some responsibility for YOUR actions and take your ticket like a grown up. I speed too,but usually not more than 10 over the limit. What pisses me off is people who tailgate me when I’m over the limit. So fuck off and stop the excessive speeding, it’s idiots like you who are going to get people or yourself killed, and if you think speed is not a factor in most motor vehicle accidents, do some research and think again.
speed kills, blah blah blah. If you’re being tailgated, pull the FUCK over. Is that so hard to understand? What makes you so high and mighty that the road belongs to you and only you? Like mentioned before, if you don’t like the speeds, get off the road and use another route.Speed is not the cause of most vehicle accidents. It’s driver inattention or skill! European roadways are much faster than ours and people travel in much closer proximity. Yet they’re better trained drivers so they understand the concept of the left hand lane and to MOVE ASIDE if another car is behind you in that lane.I will assume you’re like the 99% of the other drives out there that won’t make a right hand turn into the open curb lane because you want to get into the outside lane but you’re too stupid to realize that you can make the turn, and then switch lanes afterwards, instead of waiting to make the lazy wide right hand lane. Or you’re too stupid to realize that a car making a left turn can go at the same time as car making a right hand turn as long as both drivers stay in their lanes and not make wide turns. IF you morons realized this, there’d be way less traffic and more cars would be able to make it through an intersection!
Never did i think when i wrote this that i would get such retarded and moronic replies. but im willing to wager(dont quote me on this) that the advocates of high speeds are probably in their early 20’s and think their shit dont stink. Listen up all you young lil racers. AGREED:driver inattenion is the biggest reason for crashes. DISagreed: highways are designed to accept higher speeds than the limits posted so its ok to autobahn them (look that up boys and girls). so the fuck what? on the TCH you can go 170 then i guess. try taking an offramp, or a 45 degree turn at that speed. Its dumb fucks like you, who tell people to pull over if we are tailgated that make me ashamed to be human. if im doing 80, and you wanna fly by me, then hey spanky, make the fucking pass, cross a yellow, i dont fucking care, but i will not, EVER, risk my kids lives by trying to jump 2 lanes at high speeds on the circ, just cause YOU wanna show off daddys money in your 5G dodge neon with a 10G sound system and a 3cent fucking driver.i hope every one of you stupid reckless fuckers wrecks out the MINUTE i get off the highways one day
Speed certainly does kill! You must be a complete moron to think it doesn’t. YOU are the kind of driver getting people killed!
“speed kills, blah blah blah. If you’re being tailgated, pull the FUCK over. Is that so hard to understand? What makes you so high and mighty that the road belongs to you and only you?” Ok, why would someone pull over if they’re being tailgated? That makes no sense. It is the tailgaiting itself that causes most accidents as there is not enough distance to have a proper response time. Unless the person is “grossly” driving under the speed limit, there is NEVER a reason to tailgate.
