The Waco Express: Live & Kickin’ at Schubas Tavern
Blooshot
Waco Express is unique in how its Englishness and intelligence peek through as if incognito. Two key members were in the Mekons, who were less concerned with moving asses than minds. The Wacos go after both, in no particular order. It’s punk for the pedal steel—country, save the relentless tempo. “Fox River” takes a force of nature and the fears it inspires, charging up a bone-rattling riff. The closest thing to a slow dance is the menacing “If You Don’t Change Your Mind.” Even if you miss the references to struggle and cultural decay, this could easily be your new favourite party record.
