The Twilight Singers
Powder Burns
(One Little Indian)
At this point, there is no good reason it shouldn’t be balls-out creepy listening to Greg Dulli sing about sex. The Twilight Singers’ rotund frontman looks more like the kind of guy that an official warning should be posted about a month before he moves into your neighbourhood than a charismatic performer. Still, he pulls it off in spades. Each song on Powder Burns simmers with a seedy and electric energy that at once feels three or four musical movements out of date and much too good for that to matter. Although Dulli has been delivering albums of a similar tone and theme for almost 20 years now, it never gets old.
