The Stolen Minks
High Kicks
(New Romance For Kids Records)
Not a lot has changed with the latest release from Halifax’s premier garage rock foursome—and that’s wicked. The Minks still play a combination of sassy punk rock and fuzzed-out garage scorchers. Opener “Bring It” sets the scene on a slow groove with hipsters readying for the dance floor, then heads into modish territory as all members trade verses over a riveting two-chord progression. The remaining songs stay true to the fast and sweaty party-hearty vibe. With cleaner production amping up their joyous brand of rock ‘n’ roll, High Kicks stands as their present peak—hopefully to be exceeded by whatever comes next.
