Because you’ve become an old and boring punk, doesn’t mean the music
you make has to be the same. The Pushers, who have about a million
years of collective experience playing in bands, are one of the more
exciting acts playing punk rock in Halifax. The reason stems from the
fact that this band is more concerned with writing quality songs than
trying to relive halcyon days of past bands.
As lead singer Ian Dares says, “All Pushers songs are about bad
relationships, booze and drugs. At 34 years of age I no longer feel the
need to cure all of the problems of the world. I sing about what I
know.”
Heavily influenced by Johnny Thunders, The Real Kids and even Hank
Williams, The Pushers will, unfortunately, be short-lived: “Punk rocker
just isn’t a viable option for a career anymore. I’ve chosen to go the
more tradition route and go (back) to school (in Kingston).”
So don’t sleep on this band—check out The Pushers’ upcoming
shows in June and July.
